list your most moronic thing you've seen done to a car

-
Guy on the Sweptline truck forum purchased a D100 truck that the windows would not roll down. He took off the inner door panels to see what was going on and discovered the PO had filled the door cavities with spray foam insulation (solid).

A monochrome white Hyundai Pony with full ground effects package, hood scoop, wing and those cheap plastic Canadian Tire wheel covers. This was on the 401 and I almost killed myself laughing at 125KPH.

A 4 cylinder 88 Mustang LX festooned with 5.0 badges with a fake second exhaust end.

Another Mustang LX coupe with a whale tail wing on the deck lid, huge fibreglass fender flares with wide tires. Oh, and it was metallic pink.

1987 mercury cougar in baby blue with white landau top- bone stock with skinny white wall tires and cheap wal-mart chrome plastic wheel covers, plus those awful white plastic dual blade windshield wipers...

...had white vinyl covering over the headlights with random circles cut out, and the same vinyl covering the top and bottom thirds of the windshield with "Extreme CustomZ" cut out of it.

For many years, starting in '73, I had a job in the engineering lab of an auto parts manufacturer. Over the years I got to look at lots of new and used cars up on lifts. Saw a '65 Tempest with seat belts holding up the exhaust system. Saw a '62 Impala with the bottom of the frame gone, rusted away. The 62-64 Chevys had a problem with this.

One of the more alarming things I ever saw was a '73 Mustang convertible that had a heavy piece of cable with a turnbuckle in the middle running from the front left corner to the right rear corner of the car. It had some rust and structural problems underneath. With the car on the ground, you wouldn't think anything was wrong with it, it looked beautiful.

I bought a 70 challenger project last year, somebody ran about a 1/2 roll of black electrical tape around the steering coupler.

While I was working at a resort in Orlando circa 1993- one of the uniform service guys overheard me and another employee talking about cars.

he pipes up "you know I customize cars , too"

so we proceed out to the parking lot where he proudly directs us to his 1985 5th Ave.

it's almost bone stock except- there's a CD hanging from the inside rear view mirror, but no CD player in the car, and...

...there's a pair of cheap parts store opera lights drywall screwed to the C pillars, right through the vinyl, each with one screw that didn't penetrate the metal and is causing the light fixture to sit crooked and higher on one side with a big gap of daylight underneath, and each one has the wires for the light hanging out on the outside.

He's standing there beaming with pride and telling us how much work it was to do "everything".

The other employee and I were so struck and speechless about it that we just continued our conversation and never even acknowledged the car or anything said about it.

I recall a duster I saw 15 to 20 years ago. It was at a strip mall place. I never forget it!! Someone actually grafted the whole tail end from a oldsmobile cutlass from 1984 or 85 onto a 1973 plymouth duster!!:realcrazy: It looked hideous! I couldn't believe what I saw that day.

post 64 #1-

I actually like that. Been posted before.

If it was painted nice it would look better.

Wednesday on the way to work, I saw a camry with bathroom towel bars installed over the doors, on the C pillars and on the quarters.

I didn't quite have enough time to get my phone ready to take a pic.

They were very evenly spaced, straight and parallel with each other..

WTF?

Thursday i found t-tape holding a caliper bolt in place....
Still tempted to phone the shop that did it.
And ask what licenced mechanic used thread sealing tape to hold brakes together....
I know who,just curious....

Well I have you ALL beat. In 1979 or '80, I was working in the NAS North Island Auto Hobby Shop. This guy, a E-4, was collecting several real nice Mopars, and storing them there. A '70 440 GTX, a 69RR, A 69 Charger with a 440 and Electric windows, And several other cars of note. The GTX was gold, the Charger was white, And all theses cars were clean and very driveable. His Idea was to make a one of a kind never seen before Frankin Car. He used two Aluminum I beams as a frame, then proceeded to CUT up and disassemble all the cars, using "select" parts from each, the GTX rear being used, welded to the RR doors, of course the body lines did not line up. He actually cut up all his cars and tossed them in the trash! We all cried...I sold him the Charger, not knowing WTF he was planning! Well he got this mess together, no floors, just barely running, moving, took it out and got it impounded immediately, never saw that mess again, but he had a pile of parts, Engines and Transmissions, Rear ends.... Got some "Free" parts for my 64 sport fury off that pile.....A real crying shame. AND a 69 RR Convertible was cut up as well...A 70 Challenger 340! That whole car got cut up for one part, not remember what he used. He refused to sell anything...:BangHead::wtf:

How in HELL did he manage to store all that stuff on base? You may know I had a part time job at the MIRAMAR hobby shop. One time I bought a "roller" 67 GTX with no title, had a good 440 block in the trunk. Pulled out the automatic, the block and parts, and the Dana and had the hulk MOVED QUIETLY TO THE IMPOUND LOT LMAO. Hell it might still be there!!! (doubtful!!)

Someone putting snow tires on the rear of a front wheel drive car.

Actually this is not as silly as you think.......steering and stopping "in the slick" is sometimes more important than "front go traction"

We had a storage yard behind the shop area. And he had long term rented several stalls in the back. That guy was nuts. We all cried when he started cutting stuff up.

Some of the welding done to "repair" rust on my Duster. Its hideous and turns my project from replacing rusted out sheetmetal into a much harder task than it realy should need to be,it sure dont help that its my first attempt att doign this kind of work but its realy is a mess.

On my Dart specifically? Scrap metal holding the powersteering coupler on the shaft.

When I was abt.. 17 yrs old, my dad got a new (used) Lincoln. I took it upon myself to rattle can paint most of the engine, especially the spark plug wires, with metallic gold paint. At night it lit up like a Christmas tree. Who knew?
