Hi there FABO!
I have searched, and Im sure it exists, the thread to a 67 to 68 tank straps swap. I want to get the transverse strap out of my way on my 67 barracuda fastback to run exhaust through there. Any info is appreciated. ......I did a search a couple of ways .....thanks in advance. Info on location of reinforcement/mounting tabs is necessary or Ill just buy some straps and get 'er figured.

THANKS

Not sure if this is what your looking for. But I have the steel plate that is spot welded to the trunk spare tire well that sticks thru the floor where the two J bolts attach that holds the tank in out of my 68 Barracuda. Drilled the spot welds out and removed it from my car as I use a fuel cell that sits where the spare tire goes.

yes sir! And the front must have the slotted brackets ya? Any pictures?

Thank you!

I don't have the front brackets where the two straps hook in to. But I do have the rear one where the J hooks go. I'll have to get a picture tomorrow.

Thanks SG! If there are clues to the location of the front brackets, pass them on if you can. A picture of the bottom of your tank would help too. I think mine is different as far as indentations were the straps live.

I'll have to get my car back on the lift to get pictures of the front strap location. This is the fuel system in the car now.

I may get it back on the lift tomorrow. You can see in the picture, the holes where I drilled the spot welds out.

Looks good! Just a picture of the brackets whenever you get a chance.

Thanks

But if on the lift. .. picture of front brackets too.. Or where they used to be. .much help!

There aren't any brackets at front of straps req'd here. Some other model might have had some sort of bracket.
So on the 67 look at the upside down 'T' shaped opening they cut into the left frame rail. Maybe make a paper copy of it while there. Now go to the cross member ahead of the fuel tank and cut in two more of the same. Measurements to place these keyholes exactly where the factory did would be nice.
The straps placed and squared from the rear hangers will show you where they should go. A 1/2 inch off in any direction would hold the tank up.
If the one would hold for 67 , two share the load in 68. So there wasn't a reinforcement plate added to the cross member. Just two keyholes.

Here are some pictures. The front of the straps mount in a triangular hole which I took pictures of. passenger side is exactly in line with the upper shock bolt. Drivers side hole is 3 1/2" in from the shock bolt.

My memory sux. If I didn't have these keyholes under the 68 notch... I don't know what car had them. I do see the shock bolt conflict at other strap so....
Please ignore my comments in this thread.

Message member Moparmatt2000, I just sent him the crossmember area for the slotted strap holes, and I know hes already on this project!

Great pictures SG! I get some straps and fab those brackets.

Thank you a bunch!

Dude,
That is a premium offer but I am in school eating rice n beans and will just make them out of scrap metal I already have.
You rule.

That will work for me! Do you use "anti squeak" material between tank and trunk floor?

Thanks Herb!
