A person experiencing BPPV symptoms can follow these steps to gain relief at home:

  1. Sit up in bed with the legs extended in front of them and turn their head 45 degrees to the side that they are experiencing the most dizziness.
  2. Lie down, keeping their head turned to the side and lifted at a 30-degree angle away from the bed. They should stay in this position for 30 seconds to 2 minutes, until their dizziness stops.
  3. They should then turn their head 90 degrees in the other direction and stop when it is 30 degrees from the bed on the other side. Again, the person should hold this position for 30 seconds to 2 minutes, until their dizziness stops.
  4. They should now roll onto their side in the direction their head is facing, holding this position until the dizziness stops.
When to use

I used to have vertigo that was ungodly bad. It would incapacitate me. There are certain movements you can do with your head to help although they didn't help me. I went to a specialist that showed how to roll my head around a certain way (Epley maneuver) to stop the vertigo but it would always make it worse. It would hit me even when I was sitting watching TV or driving my car (THAT WAS SCARY!!!). In time it seemed to heal itself but it took years, I think I helped it get better by carefully moving my head to try and get used to the vertigo. I can't explain how bad it was but I can tell you that when it hit me hard I had to lay still for 24 just to feel better. I lost many days of my life but now it's completely gone.

My mom gets vertigo if she holds her eyes closed, it does not affect her at any other times.

I get it laying under my car working on it looking up.....really REALLY sucks....
I love working on my car, and that can just ruin my day.....
Not cool.....not cool at all.

My wife has a problem with the crystals ( yep crystals ) in her ear and has to go for therapy a couple times a year. It is pretty bad for her, especially when we travel and she gets one of these episodes. The therapy helps, she has to be careful about quick movements. It sucks.

I have it bad and permanently. I have learned however to compromise.

Worse part is when you're up on a steep angle roof. I had to literally throw myself against the shingles and lay flat until the vertigo passed because there was no way I could keep from falling. But like I said it's slowly healed itself. I think the exercises I do for my injured neck muscles helped??

I got it bad like you. My question is can I deduct the price of a lift on my taxes if my doc prescribes it for me in order to relive it?

This gonna sound crazy but standing and looking up makes mine worse than laying on my back looking up

If the lift is required for your work (livelihood) that might be possible. But for simple hobby work I'm not sure.
