Want to upgrade my 73duster suspension..what is recommended..it was always bottoming out and low in frontdont really want to raise just maybe stiffin up and handle well..

Hard to say without knowing what you have. Assuming a worn out stock suspension... Poly rebuild kit and 1.03 T-bars seams to get it done for many.

Yes stock suspension...will be doing poly and t bars will need shocks possibly springs been sitting long time road very low and didn't handle bumps at all

I went with Hotchkis TVS, 1.03 and full poly. TVS incl swaybars. I also got adj Hotchkis-Fox shock. Super sweet.

What is the goal of the suspension?
Just better than new parts for the same or proper ride?
Carving corners? Road Ralley?

When I did my last couple of suspension over hauls, I just went with new stock ride height springs from expo.com (AKA Springs & Things) and Poly Graphite parts from PST (OPver on the side bar to your right) and new shocks. Adjust your T bars to adjust the proper ride height.

Definitely want a stiffer ride and corner cutter.no track or races .well no racing on track anyway ..

While you can get crazy with suspension mods, I have found that after a good basic rebuild, good shocks and a thicker sway bar go a long way with wider tires.
I'm not a fan of KYB shocks. Get better units.

Was looking at Bilstein..afco leafs not sure the different between the 120lbs to 142 lbs..helwig tubular front 1 1/8 ,solid rear 3/4.. and the poly bushings, not sure if kit is best or get separate or what company to go with ..don't wanna get shitty polys..am I missing something to do with?

Well, I’ll like PST’s poly GRAPHITE stuff.

Shop around for kits and such

I rebuilt mine suspension when I did my V8 swap. Used hellwig sway bar, PST 1.03 bars, QA1 upper arms, firm feel steering box, and stock lower bushings and reinforced control arms. Made a pretty big difference. I'm very happy with it but its not a serious corner carving ride, I have a BMW for that.

I'm rebuilding my 73 duster suspension or I should say I have with basically some good moog bushings and some cheap ball joints and tie rod ends. From everything I replace to everything I put in there it's obvious before I even drive it there's going to be a dramatic difference just rebuilding it back to stock. I mean everything was shot 100%. Now as far as raising the ride height that's just a three-quarter inch socket on the torsion bar Adjusters.

Even a stock rebuild with a set of aftermarket sway bars huge step up. Add some larger than stock T bars and decent shocks is all you need unless you plan on autocross. Most don't come close to pushing the limits of the crap stock suspension nevermind a tweaked one.

Any known good shocks to run??

I bought double adjustable Vikings from PST, but most seem to recommend kyb as a good mid price shock.

For shocks I would suggest Bilsteins for non adjustable or if would want the ability to adjust/fine tune than smooth body double adjustable Vikings. Please let me know if you have any questions about our products.

Thanks
James

That's actually pretty good set up. If you put some decent tires on it you could scare that BMW if you wanted to. The Hotchkis Taxi (a 4 door Satellite!!!) put down faster lap times than the 3-series BMW's that TireRack uses for their tire testing on the same track. With the same driver (one not used to driving the Hotchkis Taxi).

KYB's are awful. "most" people definitely don't recommend them anymore.

Bilsteins are a great shock for larger torsion bars. The Hotchkis Fox shocks I found to be a little better with the 1.12" bars I run, but for anything in the 1" to 1.06" range I doubt I could tell the difference. The Fox's were just a little better matched to the 1.12's.

For a good handling street car the PST 1.03" bars, Bilsteins, Hellwig or Hotchkis sway bars, and some mopar oval track springs out back you could do pretty well. The AFCO 120 lb/in springs went out of production the same time as the Mopar oval tracks went back into production, they're pretty much the same spring (I have both). The 142 lb Afco's would be on the stiff side, they'd be hard to run with a rear sway bar without getting too much oversteer.

Tubular UCA's are a good idea if you want anything you could call a "corner carver", the Moog offset bushings in stock UCA's still won't really get you enough caster for a good set of modern tires. About the most you can get with the offset bushings and stock arms is +3* of caster, which isn't all that much still.

Here's a pretty good formula that covers pretty much all the stuff you'd need to handle well. At least from a suspension standpoint, to make this work with a good set of modern tires you'd want some chassis stiffening too- subframe connectors, torque boxes, etc.

  • 1.03 (or bigger) torsion bars
  • Tubular UCA’s (PST, FFI, etc)
  • Adjustable strut rods (PST SR 14385)
  • Solid tie rod sleeves (PST SAS 440S)
  • LCA boxing plate (PST LCAPLTMOP621)
  • Greasable LCA pins (FFI w bushings)
  • Hellwig tubular front sway bar 1-1/8"” #55905 (73+ K)
  • Hellwig solid rear sway bar 3/4"” #6907
  • Mopar oval track springs
    • Zero arch- P4529414
    • 1" arch- P4529415
  • Energy suspension 1" shackle bushings 2-2117G
  • Bilstein RCD shocks(RCD-70-56663)
