Any ideas on what i can do besides just move on a forget about it... If anybody out there has the fender tag on their car off of a 69 swinger hit me up it might be mine or i might have yours... You are talking 2 different things vin or fendertag.
Either is illegal. No way in hell I would leave a fendertag attached when it goes to body shop. They sniff chemicals all day long.

Won't help you unfortunately, but there is a guy in Missouri with a paint shop who found a bunch of tags and is trying to return them to the owners (via Facebook).

He's got ten tags, none of them '69 Swingers.

Originally fender tags were installed before paint. They were installed with one screw, bent up and the body was painted. Then they were folded down and another screw installed. Subsequently the latter screw does not have paint on it. But what do I know... I sniff chemicals all day.:poke:

I was only joking bout the chemical sniffing. I should have used the "sarcasm stick" lol. But I haven't had good experience in regards to my 69 and the body shop. I took my fendertag off when it went to the body shop. My dash was out already so the vin stayed with me as well.
I'm confused as to what the OP is missing....is it a vin or fendertag?

I pretty sure he's talking about the fender tag. It IS hard to get competent bodywork. Most qualified auto-body personnel shy away from anything but collision repair. There just isn't any comparison to the profit margin and most folks don't have the coin to compete to do it right.
Unfortunately that can lead to poor turn-around times or substandard work.
I do agree the chemicals can mess with us. More like cancer and nervous systems. Not so much losing fender tags. :poke:

That sux. Hope you had pics. I would go after them for damage in value.

They could have made an honest mistake and maybe the charger has your tag. But sounds like they knew and screwed you.

If this is a rare car do the lien. If not, get over it.

Come on. They probably took the fender tag off to get your paint code and lost it. If the car is not super rare, forget about it. Did he do a good paint job? Do you have your broadcast sheet? That's all you need

I'm assuming you have a photo of your fender tag ('cos like, who doesn't...it's the first pic I take of a Mopar I own), it's a simple process to get a new one made by a mob like www.datatags.com

No pic, then you need a broadcast sheet.

Hope its not a 340 car. Some how this owner of the body shop needs to make this right.

There used to be some jerk over on Moparts that "collected" fender tags.

It is value. Lots of the build sheets are lost. That tag tells a lot about the car.

I assumed it was a 340 car to start. If all modified as to never come back to original then it may not matter in the long run. Once again I assume not.

My fender tag was lost about 30 years ago, which didn't make a difference until lately now that I'm looking to trade the car! Now it's a big deal!!..to some people anyway!

Oh so true.

When I bought in 84 that tag meant nothing. I got a BB car based on the Dash VIN and engine installed to replace my beloved 69 SuperBee. Fast forward 30 years and it is very important. Did not really know at the time how it would matter and surprised and glad that I never tossed it.

Are talking "VIN" tag or "Fender Tag"?
Oh crap.
Sorry for the confusion it was the fender tag off my car that he lost an then just screwed one off a charger.. I shoulda known better than to leave the tag on the car but i figured any responsible painter that takes something off would put it back on painted..

I wish i coulda sopped payment but i had already paid the man when i picked the car up but didn't realize that the tag was wrong till one night putting my car back together that i just by dumb luck i noticed the vin number didn't start out with my Lm23 numbers an after finding this i calls the guy up an told him about it an he's like i thought that was your fender tag but if its not i don't know what coulda happen to it... needless to say i still ain't happy about him loosing it an then trying to cover it by placing someone else's tag on it.

Good chance your tag is on a Charger...
