There was a post about 2-3 months ago on a led light bulb replacement for a 1157 can someone help find it for me?

I replaced mine today with Philips (12899RX2) Red P21/5W LED Exterior Bulb in my 67 barracuda. 4 way flashers work along with turn signals and brake lights, and they are difinatly brighter than before. In the post there was a similar light for back up lights, does anyone have that post or no the part number? I dint need any ballast or fancy flasher to make them work.

Grabbed a pair of Phillips "direct replacement" bulbs off of Rock Auto. They go right into the sockets and promptly don't emit any light, making the "Light Emitting" portion of "light emitting diode" name a bit misleading. :D

Has anyone tried these?

It looks like they might require the opposite polarity from what is being delivered to the socket...has anyone taken a file to the nubs on the base of the bulb and installing it the other way around? Obviously it would be necessary to find another way to hold the bulb in place... Is there a better way to swap polarity?

Cut - switch - splice the wires? Switch polarity at the flasher?

Maybe a better option?

Something just aint right here. A bayonet type bulb that will install either way, sure the polarity could be reversed. For this type bulb... How in the heck/why in the heck would they built it wrong? You must be lacking ground or something.

Reversing the contacts in the socket of an 1157 type bulb does NOT reverse polarity. An 1157 bulb has TWO filaments, each to GROUND. What you would be "reversing" is the "dim" tail filament to the "bright" signal/ stop filament.

In other words you still have B+ to the contact and NEG to the shell either way

No idea what the trouble might be...................

ONLY BULBS that would revers polarity in this fashion are the dual contact interior lamps, 1004 where the power and ground is supplied to the contacts and not the shell which is unused

I think the pin offset should allow the bulb to go in only one direction easily. Is the bulb base worn or corroded? Is the contact plate damaged or turning on you as you install it?

I guess you have not dealt with too much of the Chinese/Taiwanese crap they are selling these days?

led light bulb replacement for a 1157 - Bing

It seems to me that there were some issues with the directionals working with the LED's.
Basically, try replacing the turn signal bulbs with LED equivalent and if they work, so be it. If not, just swap out the mechanical flasher with an electronic flasher, the one with the seperate gound lead coming out of it.. I have replaced ALL my bulbs with LEDs. I would recommend checking out Dan Stern's Lighting for all you lighting needs. Daniel Stern Lighting Consultancy and Supply

I'm currently running red LED tail&brake lights in my '73 Dart.
Also tried a number of front turnsignal LEDs but I couldn't get LEDs working together properly on all four corners at the same time. Even with a proper LED turnsignal flasher. So I'm currently just running LEDs at the taillghts.

Just today however I installed a pair of LED headlights, which seemed to be an easy swap-in and consume less power then the regular lightbulbs.
Haven't driven at night yet to see the difference.

Do they look like normal headlights or a bunch of dots?
I bet you need to reverse the polarity to the LED flasher and they'll all work LED. I just went through this with my car. FYI there are usually two flashers. Both need the new LED flashers. Also had to reverse the wires on both flashers on mine but I understand that is not always the case.

If any of the front turn signal LED's don't flash, try installing a ballast resistor on each bulb that is failing. I have them installed on my duster. How to Install Load Resistors for LED Turn Signal Lights

Definitely not. That outfit, like numerous others, sells trinkets with no engineering in them. Fine to play with their junk for non-safety-critical applications (dashboard, dome light, trunk light, etc), but begging for a crash if you install them in the car's safety lights (basically any exterior light).

Better than cutting wires and installing little electrical heaters (thus nullifying the reduced-current advantage of LEDs), fix the problem at the source: install an LED-compatible flasher. That's this one (2-prong like original; connect its ground wire conveniently).

Guess I'm screwed then.

I've seen that Grote flasher refuse to work in some applications. Grab the one I linked, which comes with a dingus that lets you swap the flasher polarity if it doesn't work at first.

Also, on a '68-up car make sure you're swapping the turn signal flasher (clipped to the back/side of the ash tray cavity in the dashboard) and not the 4-way hazard flasher (closer to the lower lip of the dashboard).
