I painted the engine bay last August, but now I want to respray it. It has some runs and the metallics didn't lay down quite right. I also used single stage the first time and the rest of the car is going to be bc/cc.

I did prep it right. I sanded it down to bare metal and epoxy primered it and then put on 2 coats of single stage Acrylic Urethane on it.

How should I go about respraying it? Can I scuff it up with a red scotch brite or do I need something more aggressive? I know I will have to sand the runs out for sure.

I got the drivers side stripped down along with half the trunk. My goal is to have the body in epoxy by the end of April.

It depends on the size of the runs but you can block them out until they are gone. If you have a bunch of feather edges because of this you may need to spot prime it so you don't have any swelling when you re-paint. Depending on the condition of the paint you should be able to prep and paint with no sealer. What color are you putting on it next? This will determine how you prep the existing surface.

Thanks!

The runs aren't that big. The paint was actually put on September of 2016, and is in great shape, I just wasn't happy with how it came out and since I now on to the body, I want to shoot the whole car at one time. I want to put plum crazy back on it, but in BC/CC and will probably go with the 2016 Formula. I think I like it better.

Here are some pics of the bay right after I sprayed. (given it doesn't look bad in the pics, but its just a cell phone camera.)

What do you suggest for sandpaper?

No problem. If you really want it show you could wet sand it with 600-800 and just go right to base then clear. You have to be a bit careful with a red scuff pad as it may let the metallic's settle in the scratch and show but I don't think you'll have an issue with that.

Awesome. I will give it a go with the wet 600. Thanks for the help.

No problem. Good luck and keep updated with some progress pictures!

These cars usually had runs in the paint from the factory under the hood. Plus any paint imperfections under the hood usually go un noticed once all the hoses and wiring are installed.

I hear ya, but the biggest problem areas are the fender aprons. So no sweat.
