Ok, question for the Mopar Gods here: I have a 73 Dart Sport currently with power brakes, Wilwood Disk brakes all around. I am going to install a 440 engine so power brakes have to go. I have the bracket that converts petal travel to the booster now. It looks like I can pull off the master cylinder and mount it directly on the firewall for direct petal to master cylinder.

Is there anything I will need to convert this over to manual brakes? I need to make room for big motor!

Thanks!

Scott

Mancini Racing should have everything you need or take a look at what DoctorDiff has. Pretty simple conversion, all of the parts are available. You can also get an offset master cylinder adapter which moves the master cylinder over towards the fender. That gives you a little more room for the valve cover.

I agree with the suggestion of Mancini Racing. They seem to be the universal go-to butt savers for Mopar guys.

As for switching to manual brakes...I get why the space will be critical with the big block swap...but nothing like adding ~200lbs to the front of the car and suddenly needing 3x the pedal effort. :D

You'll be fine...I've personally never even driven a classic Mopar that didn't have manual brakes and they all stopped as well as I had expected...but I still suggest practicing some emergency stops and threshold braking before you do any horsing around with that hot new motor.

The master cylinder is different for manual and power brakes.
Do yourself a favor and buy a new one from Dr.Diff with the proper push rod and offset mount and you will never look back.
Call him and he'll set you up with what you need.

Or, u can save a few $ by buying an offset mounting block off ebay, and lengthening the existing pushrod the same thickness as the new offset block, and get an 87 dodge diplomat /alum. master cyl. from an auto parts store. I did, it has a pedal feel about twice of power brakes.
