Nhra has ruled that the LD340 intake will no longer be allowed after January 1, 2019, in Stock Eliminator.

So after all these years they decide a stock 48-50 year old 340 running stock can no longer run the LD-340! I swear the NHRA is in self destruction mode.

They have only been legal for about a year or so......they never came from the factory installed....

No but it was assigned a Chrysler part to run other class and type racing. Just like was done by the big 3 for years.

Some racers paid some good money for those intakes.....plus what they paid to get them "Race Ready".....LOL

In order to be legal...it had to come off the factory assembly line....the LD340 did not...even though it had a factory part number on it...

nhra also declared a replacement SB chevy head illegal..so they are not just picking in mopar..

It's really Mopar's own fault. While Chevy cranked out LOTS of engines with factory aluminum intakes, Mopar never did. Even Ford had a few factory aluminum intakes. The thing was assigned a danged Chrysler part number for crap sake. They should be able to use it........but I understand why they cannot. It's all on Mopar.

This change is in regards to the use of the Mopar Performance 3549884 (LD340) intake manifold for the 1968 thru 1970 Mopar Stock engines. On April 16th, 2018 the NHRA Tech Dept. deleted this part from the Blueprint specs. This was done following extensive research and review of our files from the manufacturer. This part was not an OEM part and was a dealer replacement. Per the NHRA rule book equipment other than factory installed is prohibited. In view of the fact that some, racers have spent time and money to purchase and develop these parts we are going to allow this part to be used for the remainder of the year. On January 1st, 2019 this part will no longer be permitted.

Anybody looking for a $1500 LD340? SHould be plenty of them available! :)

Put one on top of the Bare 340 block asking $2500 at spring fling. LOL

that's ok, the factory cast intakes will crank it!!!!! Maybe we will see the LD340 intake come down to a realistic price :D

Roy, I was speaking of the ones those Stock Elim guys worked over.

Excatly what I was thinking.
Well, can always run a 6 pack. Oh yeah, mopar is not making the SB version anymore.
Running out of options in the mopar world.

Mark2205.....What do you disagree about?.......

Stocker guy who lives around the corner...sent his recently purchased LD340 to his engine builder who shipped it to a shop in Wisconsin...who cut the intake open and did some "grinding" who then welded it back together...you can not tell it was welded back together..and this one intake did not have the part number on it...they put part number on it to make it Legal at the time...

He only paid 325 for the intake cause I bought it for him on ebay.....probably got almost a grand wrapped up in it....

The good news is the factory 4bbl intake is very good. Factory intakes can be reworked to make big power as well. The biggest handicap with the iron intake is its weight. Yes it sucks for the stock eliminator racer but it does make sense.

probably not...nhra probably making money on the eddy heads from edelbrock....no money in 50 yr old intakes...

So what year 340 car was offered with the Edelbrock heads? Edelbrock intake is a no go? But the Edelbrock head that never came on a 68-70 340 are legal? Oh my head hurts!
