May not have been around long

There used to be an OD unit that looked like a sawed off "front" of an A833. I would guess you pulled your input pinion out, put it into the OD and then the od bolted up in front of your existing A833. No idea "when" this might have been

Never seen it, but if it was a planetary-type with a ratio of .78 or so, I want one.

I saw an electric shift one, on the back of a Saginaw once. I still have it. I wouldda put in my S but I wouldda blown that Saginaw up in the first week.

BIG dollar..:wtf:

NO...........The unit I am thinking of looked just like a sawed off A833, and bolted to the FRONT of the main gearbox. It would have functioned just like a 4th gear (straight through) and 3rd gear overdrive, just like the Mopar OD 4 speed

As I say, it may have been short lived. This was a "long time ago"

Hone O Drive. google it.

Made for ford 9" to bolt on. Might have had an external stand alone unit.

Are you talking about the old Chrysler manual overdrive that came on the mid 50's vintage three speed cars? It was vacuum and electric actuated with a parking brake type handle under the dash that you would pull out if you wanted to keep the overdrive from actuating. It would drop engine rpm by approximately 33% when actuated. I’m currently looking for one for my 53 Cranbrook 2DR. They are hard to find and worth their weight in gold.

There's also the Laycock (became Gear Vendors) "P" type, self contained unit found on British cars and some volvos.

Those are actually supposed to be quite sturdy.

This was strictly aftermarket, and is not a Hone O drive

This looked like part of a sawed off transmission and bolted directly to the bell housing, with the main gearbox behind. No idea how successful it ever was

Sorta remembering...the one I'm thinking about was in either Popular Hot Rodding/Car Craft back mid 70's to early 80's. Before Gear venders. Some older dude had made one for his Charger and you could exchange or buy the parts yourself with instructions. I have the magazine somewhere. I was interested for my Swinger 340 4spd at the time.

^^That sounds like the time frame and where I might have seen it.

The Husky / Advance Adapters ones is what this was. I didn't realize there was more than one LOL
