The shop I'm having do my exhaust work doesn't have a mandrel bender, so I'm trying to find 2.5" pipes to go over the axle that they can then just weld up to the mufflers.

Only thing I've found was an entire kit from Pypes at Summit which include mufflers with it and I don't need those.

i'd find a new shop. Never heard of an exhaust shop without a bender

I used the Jegs brand 2.5 dual exhaust. Did it myself, turned out nice. You'd have to read the description to see if over the axle was mandrel bent, can't remember

I like TTI kits. I buy them from mancini racing but there are many vendors selling them. I think you can buy the individual pieces if you dont need a whole kit.

They have a regular pipe bender.
I asked Jegs when I bought the mufflers, but he said they didn't have a set for the car. But here it is on their site:
JEGS Performance Products 30500: Header-Back Dual 2-1/2 in. Exhaust Kit A-Body | JEGS

Hard to tell from the picture, but the description says it's all mandrel bent.

One reason I don't want to deal with doing it myself is the different headers I have and the 440. I'm not sure how well these kits would line up and fit without some modification.

I might just say screw it and let them do the whole thing. Probably not making enough HP anyway worthy of the smoother bends.

Don't suppose you have a part# for the jegs? I can only find the one with mufflers. I looked up the TTI kit and it's around $600, which really isn't too bad for an exhaust kit. But the jegs is less than half that.

I'll check back again with jegs this evening, I was wanting to swap my super turbos for the ultra flow mufflers anyway.

So it's been a hectic day getting this exhaust done. I drive 30 miles to jegs warehouse to get the jegs exhaust kit for the car (555-30501) because it was going to take them 2 days to ship it to the local store. I then head back to the shop which was the opposite direction of where I live in town. Get the car up on the lift and the guy says he can't work on it. Fuel sender was leaking. So I go to a shop down the street who send me next door instead. They found a sending unit at autozone and fixed it in 2 hours. Back to the exhaust shop. I left the mufflers at home by accident... So I have them start working and catch an uber home. Once I'm in my driveway, I realized the shop had my keys. I did catch a break though, my bathroom window was unlocked and I crawled in.

Ok, back to the shop. The jegs exhaust kit doesn't fit at all. Nothing lined up. The pipes that went over the axle barely worked out but only gave about a 1/4" of clearance. I finally said **** it, customize the whole thing. Quoted me only $350, I'll just have to deal with aluminized pipes instead of stainless steel and non-mandrel bends. Whatever, I don't care anymore. By this point it was 4pm, I started this adventure at 9am. I'll pick it up tomorrow morning.

Oh, and I exchanged my super turbos for the ultra flows.

What car and what headers.it was a bit of a chore getting it right laying on my back.and yes over the axles was a pain

You might check out ( Accurate Exhaust ). Don't know if they make the products for the previously mentioned vendors .
Yote

'73 Duster with (best to my knowledge) schumacher tri-y headers for the 440. I assumed it would need some minor modification because of that but he made it sound like the pipes were for a different car. Whatever, I'll take those back to jegs and they can fabricate their own, which is actually cheaper overall. I'm also going with an x-pipe.

the jegs/summit kits use thin crappy pipe anyway. better off with a custom system anyway as long as the guy is good.. i highly doubt you'll notice any difference in performance using conventional bent pipe over mandrel bent pipe plus it will fit better as long as the installer is good..

I had some minor work done on an old bonneville once and was pretty happy, and they have some the best prices in town. I was a welder in the army myself and their welds got my approval before so I figured worth a shot.

They said they won't do anything with electrical, so I'll just need to run the wires for the cutouts myself. I'm hoping they'll leave the car on the lift for me just a couple minutes so I can at least run the wires from the cabin to the cutouts. It'd just be way easier and faster than me jacking up the car at home.

Now I just gotta call another shop and put my foot in the arse because they've had my car a week now and still haven't diagnosed it yet. Don't ever buy a jag, they break every 6 months. *rant over*

Got a flat tire while returning the exhaust kit to jegs. BMW in their infinite wisdom do not provide a spare or jack in their cars and assumes everyone uses run-flats. It was only 2.5mi walk to my house, but of course this happens when I have both my other cars in shops.

Anyway, total for the custom pipes was $320, which I can't complain about that. My only disappointment has been in the mufflers. The ultra flows sound nice and throaty at idle, but once you get up into 2nd gear the drone is horrible. I think it's actually worse than the nameless mufflers that were already on it.

I have a Summit 2.5" system on my Duster with Doug's headers on my 340. It fits great, no issues at all with the pipes being "thin". I did the whole install myself, I did have to trim a few of the pipes, mostly the final length of the tail pipes but I also took a little out of the mid pipes. Nothing crazy, and what I would expect from a somewhat generic kit. It was easy though, all I had to do was cut a few inches straight off the ends to put the mufflers where I wanted them. It has held up just fine over the last 4 1/2 years that it's been on the car, the whole thing still looks new. The only issue that I had with the entire system was the mufflers, the original mufflers included with the kit had crimped edges that started to leak exhaust after maybe 6 months or so. I switched to welded DynoMax Ultra-Flows, love 'em. I drive the car all the time, and commute on the freeway. There's a little drone at some rpm's, but it's not bad at all. My cruising RPM to hold 70mph on the freeway is like 3,300 rpm, no issues at all there. Oh, and the little plastic clip thingies they had to hang the tail pipes didn't last all that long, but I expected that as soon as I saw them.

I just bought a second Summit kit for my Dart, they have welded mufflers now included with the kit that I'll probably run. I love the Ultra-flows but they are kinda loud, my Dart is going to be the "easy" car- power steering, automatic, and probably a little quieter. If I can resist the temptation to buy another set of ultra-flows :D.

I don't know if Jeg's is supplied by the same manufacturer, but eventually all of my cars will have the Summit kits. Great bang for the buck.

As far as there being tight clearance on the tank, that's how EVERY system is. There's very little room to sneak the tail pipes by the tank and springs, the larger you make the pipes the harder it gets. But I was still able to get my Summit kit to clear fine, even with a 1/2" inboard spring offset.

, no issues at all with the pipes being "thin".

you may not have problems, but the last summit kit i helped with on a friends challenger came with thin *** pipe compared to what my tti and the local exhaust shop supplies and the hardware was also thin cheap crap..

So I have the same mufflers as you then. I get the drone between 1500 and 2500 rpm, so it's not an issue idling or on the highway. Maybe it's just my engine build, but I hoped they would sound better. For the price of what I paid, I can't really complain I suppose. I'll try to take some pics of their work.

Like I said, I have a kit that arrived last week from Summit. No, it isn’t the thickest wall exhaust pipe I’ve ever seen, nor is the hardware the best I’ve ever seen. But I’ve also seen cheaper hardware and thinner pipe. I weld all the connections anyway, so I only need a few clamps and I buy a couple of better hangers. Still money WAY ahead.

For the price TTI charges, that crap should be gold plated. Seriously. It’s way more than twice the cost after you’ve shipped it.

My point was that the Summit kits I have work just fine, and have held up great. I drive my Duster year round, it gets parked outside year round, and almost 5 years later it looks great still. For everyone parking their car inside and driving less than 6 months out of the year it’ll last forever. No, the quality isn’t the same as TTI but neither is the price, not even close. The summit kits are great kits for the money, and IMO the TTI kits are way overpriced for what they give you.

I can't say I'm impressed with the visual quality of the exhaust, and the x-pipe looks a bit restrictive the way it was made. But it works and I think I got a good price for the work done.

He angled my cutouts upward slightly. He told me why but I can't remember his reason. He said he'll put some turn downs on it when I get the cutout wiring installed. If I haven't mentioned yet, the cutouts are from Badlanz (performance low profile) , High Performance Exhaust Kit (Low Profile)

I used a dremel to fit the switch into the ashtray housing, keeps it out of sight. So far so good, takes about 5 seconds to open/close the cutouts and sound like the seal nicely.

I took some pics:

I used TTI head pipes with the Jegs dual exhaust system. I used Dynomax super turbo's for mufflers. Hung it all myself at home, no hoist.
