Yesterday I went to see a 68 Barracuda black on black, slant 6, auto on column. The guy said it was an 69, but it is a 68.
Original Belgian car, km speedo, original paint. Mostly omplete, but has a broken back window and a VW backseat, lol, also missing front doorpanels.
Has rust in usual places like bottom frontfenders, usual spot on rockers, and just before the rear wheels. Front floors have surface rust, not rusted through.
And a few dings and dangs.
Has been off the road for at least 5 years I think. So needs mechnical updated, like suspension parts, exhaust, tires (has 13" and 14" wheels on it), the whole bunge...
He has offers for about 3K, don't know how much it would cost to buy the car.
Would it be worth the investment? I only know one 67-69 notchback over here.
Anybody know how much there are build in this color?

Well worth 3k, esp since you don't have much choice over in Europe without spending thousands in shipping and fees. Black is pretty rare in any model, I'm sure someone here has the #s. But the important thing is if you like it, grab it.

just keep in mind that 3K is closer to 3500, still not bad, but worth mentioning

In another country?! If that's "THE HE CAR" for you?
JUMP!!! IF you're asking if it will flip well in your country, I don't have a clue...

S**t, I didn't check for the fendertag, stupid me...:BangHead:, I asked to owner but he is in the hospital for a few weeks, a friend showed me the car and I have to deal with him.
But paint definitely looked original. I think I have to put in 2 to 3K to make it roadworthy and add a bit of value to it.

Would this be original striping?
Interior looks like crap...

COOL car, but i love notches!!!! No way to find out how many were made in black. But like said above, black cars in any body type are rare.
What is the odd red light on the bottom of the rear valance? Was it mandatory to add addition brake lights there???
$3k (3500?) sounds like a good price to me.

Probably a foglight, that is neccesary over here even in those days, dealer installed I think.
Notice the perfect dashpad, you US guys must be jalous at that!
Speedo goes to 240!
Lol, km ofcourse.

It may be auto now, but the pedals imply 3 on the tree earlier in life. Easy 4 speed conversion. It doesn't have a vinyl top does it? I ask because of that trim piece. Radio delete? Weird dash panel, unless it was a custom cover up. 3G would be good here!

Yeah that car is perfect for a SB 4 speed swap.

Get it because you like it. Don't get it for investment unless you do a lot more checking into the market. The market in the states, the market in the UK, and the market in your area of EU are all going to be a bit different.
That car has been through a lot of alterations. In the US, I'd say 2-3K minimum on just the body to make metal, trim and glass reasonable decent. Then there is interior and a fair amount of time sorting out the mechanical and electrical. Swaps, or returning to truly original will be even more time and money. My opinion is that modified cars should be done because that's what the owner wants. The market for your creation will generally be smaller than a restored car.

Yep 3G for as complete as it is thats a decent deal these days. Its mostly complete, and doesnt look banged up badly. The expensive stuff like the grilles and taillights as well as trim look decent. That stuff is pricey if it needs to be replaced. Complete pair repop taillight assemblies can easily run $700 or more.

2 notchback only items will be the rear glass , and a rear seat. The rear seat will not interchange from a dart. Those rear seats are barracuda notchback specific. You might be able to find those items over there.

However if you network with a bunch other old American car enthusiasts needing parts you may be able to do a shipping container deal. I sold a rust free fender for a 74 dart to a guy whos son lives in iceland. He said typically the mopar crowd up there will have a shipping container loaded up with a car and a bunch o parts.

It looks like the stainless rear window trim is missing off the back window. One piece looks like its laying in the rear window opening. The 68-69 notchback rear window trim is some of the hard to find and expensive pieces to this car. Hopefully the rest of those pieces are in the trunk of the car. I have a half set for my second project 69 notchback. They were missing. I still need the 2 upper pieces. I have a full set for my 67 so i can use the available repopped 68-69 rear window gasket

Lower fender and quarter patch panels can be fabricated from sheet steel if the damage is minor, but lower rear quarter skin patch panels, and front fender lower patch panels exist if its bad enough that they are needed.

I bought my new 67 barracuda replacement door inner panels from summit racing. I am sure they would ship overseas. Not sure what shipping and taxes would cost you though.

68 style side stripe was a formula S item, however i think it may have been optional on the base model car as well. Additionally, the trim around the roof below the back window is vinyl top trim. The car may have originally came with a vinyl top, that was removed and painted after the vinyl dried out. The fender tsg will tell you if it had one or not. Having that top removed likely saved that car from a rustier fate as those damn vinyl tops will ruin a car when watet gets underneath them. This leads me to believe the car may have at least 1 repaint. If not the whole car, at least the top was repainted where the vinyl was since they only primer the metal under a vinyl top at the factory. That vinyl top trim is not there if the car comes with a factory painted top. If you like the vinyl top look i have seen people use a textured paint in a steel top and put the trim back on. Looks good, easier to maintai , and protects from rust better.

My 67 was a slant 6 with 3 speed column shift. I converted to V8 4 speed. The shifter on the column was broken. Its the reason the car was parked. Not sure if the owner has all the pieces to the column shift. What i found wrong with my column shift when i took it apart was there is a rectangle tab thats only brazed to the inner torque tube in the column that allows you to move the shifter lever up and down rotating the torque tube with the linkage on it. with . That rectangle broke off the tube wont rotate. I welded the tab back on just to be able to pin the shifter collar in place for the floor shift conversion, then i cut off the nub that sticks up for the shifter arm, ground it concave, filled it with a metalized epoxy, sanded it smooth and painted it. Whacked off the shifter linkage tabs at the lower end. Viola, floor shifter column.

I hope this helps you out
Matt

The side stripe must have been available on all cars. I have a 68 6cyl Notch that has the same stripe and I know mine is all original.

The light on the rear valance is a high intensity tail light. I lived in Belgium for a few years and because of frequent heavy fog all of the american cars had to have a high intensity light installed. However they were all installed on the left side. That one looks like it was made for that valance and maybe was a factory install because it was built as a European (Belgium) car.

Always wondered what the single additional lower valance taillighs on cars were for. Pretty neat artifact to have, especially if it was a factory install, even cooler if its got a mopar part number on it.

Ok, guys thanks for the input.
Window trim supposed to be there, I already found a back seat near Paris, France.
In the next few days I'll decide what to do. I already have a few projects waiting to be finished, a 65 Barracuda, 69 DartGT, 68 Satellite 4dr, 68 Chr.300 2dr, 69 Valiant 2dr, 73 Matador 2dr.:steering:and a 62 Dart330 2dr.
My good (finished) car is a 68 2dr Coronet.

Sounds like you got a whole hot wheels collection in 1-1 scale. I'm working on my hot wheels collection, but i confess its not nearly as large as yours.

But your hot wheels collection takes a bit less space, lol. Now I am looking for more place to put my collection someware else.

Ok, this black fish is mine now, draged it out of the barn where it sat about 7 years or so.
We had a lot of curious people along the highway. :usflag:
