Why Do You Like Old Cars

-
i'm starting to not like old cars.. with how the new cars perform and the cost of classic muscle anymore its kinda getting silly to mess with these old rust buckets.. a v6 camaro, challenger or mustang run in the 13's.. hell that 4cyl mustang will tear some classic muscle up..

modern muscle performs awesome.. fast, stops and corners awesome.. and they car nice and comfortable to be in, better mpg too.. best of all worlds.. plus they are built light years better then old cars. quality control is much better too.. nothing about a classic car was built to last..

i always hear that modern muscle has no personality. well here is a news flash that 1970 car was the same way back then. they gain personality as they are used...

i seriously think i'm an idiot at times plying with this old junk..
think what people don't get in 1969 how dumb it would be trying to daily drive a 1919 dodge or whatever

Some of you guys need to be banned, for violate Old Car Bible!

Question:
What Mopar division made Superbird? Answer: Plymouth.
Why do you like Old Car? Answer: The fuel burning smell; the simple, slow and loud sound while its operating.
...

Cars are only as old as you treat them.

My first car was a muscle era mopar and I have never "upgraded" into a "newer" car. The newest car I have now is a 1975 and I use my mopars to drive and they are my only transportation.

Some people used to take it like I am poor and cant afford a new car which is not the case, my parents even wanted me to "upgrade" and they wanted to buy me a new dart when they came out a few years ago and I said NO

Getting a new car would mean that my daily drive 68 dart would be put out to pasture and die slowly. It will go anywhere a new car would so why park it????? It has worked fine for the past 50years, why change anything now???

I don't need power this and that, nor an ipod thingy. Radio delete, manual steering and brakes, slant six with an 833 OD works just fine.

A/C would be nice when I am dressed up to go somewhere formal but that is why they have freshen up rooms where ever you go.

Rani if there was only more women like you !

The problem with modern cars, is they age horribly. They are too complicated and made with plastics that self implode after a decade. My shop has been in business since 78 and with every year, there is more and more electronics and less metal in cars. Even the grade of plastics used is less. You can have a 10 year old modern car with plasics that are brittle and fall apart anytime you look at them, but my 66 belvedere's plastics are still soft and look good. I want to see how they hold up after 50+ years.

yea because e a 70 ebody plastic int was so nice and held up so well.. give me a break..lol

had my 01 toyota for 8-9 years... had 180k on the odometer. all the plastic in that car were still perfect when i sold it.. loved that little car. the plasitc in my 07 toyota was still perfect after 8 years and 160k too.. hell out camry was 8 years old with 100k on it and all the plastic in that car was still perfect when we traded it in on our subaru...

not sure what the hell you re working on or if its the weather there but i have totally different personal experiences.

Because I feel more connected to the vehicle. You can feel the steering, the brakes, when you break traction. No over sensitive electric power steering, no abs, no traction control. Just me and the car. Also I tend to trust it more because I'm the one who built it up.

hell the steering in modern cars feels light years better then the over boosted crap that came in 60-70's era chryslers and fords... holy crap that stock power steering makes me feel drunk driving the darts i've had over the years.. way too easy and no feel at all..

I love my old car because I feel I earned the right to own, preserve and enjoy this cool old car. Anyone can go down to the dealership and take home a new muscle car, and good for them! I will definitely do that sometime soon too. But the pride in ownership of a new car can in no way compare with the pride I take in driving this car that I built in my garage with my friends and family.

And, I have heard it said that you can collect and recycle cans for many life times and not recycle as much metal as putting 1 old car back on the road! I guess I'm a tree hugger!

abodyjoe- I think you should turn that old truck over to me right away! It is you with the Red Express right?

acutally, yes, they did hold up. very well for being 48 years old. just sold my 09 camry hybrid, dash was turning to sticky slime. it was gross. google toyota melting dash. i want to see these cars after being 40+ years old.

me thinks you are just used to driving modern cars. you do know the pressure is easily adjusted on any ps pump?

**** 8 out of 10 ebodies I’ve run across have had the plastic crap all chalky and brittle. Pure junk. Not my experience with newer cars. Hell my 87 Mustang plastic was perfect too.

Yes I know you can adjust pressure. It didn’t come that way though . Most newer cars have a better feel then stock old ones in my opinion. Hell adjusting the pressure in an older cars power steering is just trying to make it feel like a modern car.

You are being thick. The e bodies you are mentioning are 50 years old with 50 year old plastics.

My neighbor thinks its so I will be noticed .. I could care less. I drive one because I like working on it ( most of the time), brings back good memories of the 60'/70's, and they have style that most of the new ones lack. The sound, the shake of the engine/trans just gives me a lift that my everyday Impala lacks. Sunny summer day, on some two lane country road, windows down, mufflers doing there thing, can't beat it. Life is good

Best years if my life were driving 50's and 60's cars. Never left them alone, always had to try to make them faster.
Now it's Owner Built, Owner Abused for me. A finished 67 Barracuda notch draws attention-I just tell them it was a six year build for
me while working a full time job. They ask me where my Comet went they find out another car guy wanted it bad enough to
pay my price for it. Now I can start on my exit project-a 1940 Ford pickup--------------:)
Don't get me wrong, I constantly jones for a new Challenger RT or Track Pac-------------wont happen though.

Abodyjoe. Everyone understands the new ones are better, but most here appreciate the old stuff for what it is "different." For many years, our muscle cars were better looking, better performing, and more comfortable than any new car you could buy. Remember the 80's. The 80's corvette's were garbage (and slow) along with a hole slew of other cars. Your old mustang was slow too with the plastic to boot. We didn't get good muscle cars again until the mid 90's, maybe not until the 2000's.

Because I like doing things I shouldn't be able to do, like keeping a car running 40 years longer than its intended life span and building the car the way I want it to be built. Getting all the thumbs up and living my teen years every time I fire em up is just one of lifes little perks. I can't imagine not owning a classic car.

Reminds me of my youth when these cars were new!

If I only knew the value they would attain!

I.can't party like that anymore!

...and then there was Maggie!!!

Oh Maggie!

Maybe just me, but hard to imagine any of the new cars some are talking about being around or considered classics 50 years from now...people buying them will just dump the the 700 HP models for the next 1100 HP ones coming out..I mean if there's a point to that it's lost on me..:realcrazy:

My big problem with the new muscle cars is the lifespan of the electronics. Its possible they will have replacement components when this stuff burns out but its possible they won't. Then what do you do?

I agree with all your comments. However for some, these old cars take us back to memories of simpler, less-stressful times when the most controversial thing on TV was "All in the Family."

got the wife a new CR-V and the amount of electronics on it is scary....interesting/ fun/useful... but scary when you think of that crap needing replacement/service/etc. I mean it actually steers/drives itself down the road if you want it to, dims the brights for oncoming cars, etc. etc. ..Begs the question: do you want to be a passenger behind the wheel or a driver?!
