408 Stroker Short Block Details: Blueprint Engines

Still dialing in metering rods step-up springs with the wideband, was hoping for some track time this weekend as I'm shooting for 7.70-7.75 and low 90's mph region in the 1/8 after all the tweaking. Step-up rods weren't coming up fast enough and secondary jetting was lean....thing pulls much harder now, . Pictures if and when successful:thumbsup::rolleyes:

Been too hot this summer to do more testing, just hot rodding around some, but meanwhile I've installed a Transgo TF-3, raised the rear springs front eye mounts, fabricated a cold air intake setup with K&N air filter, tweaked the Street Demon step up springs to perfection, added a Carter M6270 mechanical fuel pump (in conjunction with the electric Carter pump and Holley regulator) and got the PPP shifter installed. Just waiting on a 9' cable to hook it up. Looking to hit the track in the next week or so to see what it all yields.

I love that fabrication on the shifter. Clean and simple.
 
mucho coolo ... just about IDENTICAL times as my blue print short block. EVentually i'll have to tow the pig down to cali for some sea level racing and see what it does down there!

Lokar kickdown setup remains for the time being on the street, but will safety wire the lever back for track,
 
Really trying to get it down into the mid 7.7's, don't think it'll see mid/upper 7.6's. Cracking into the 11's in the 1/4 with how I have built it likely out of reach, but I'm tweaking left and right. Everything I've done tuning wise has gotten decent results though, from an 8.01 to a 7.85 in the 1/8 equals about .25 in the 1/4. I'm maximizing EVERYTHING:)
 
OK, one last end of the season drag strip post on this thread and I believe it can then drift off into forgotten thread land! Last trip to the strip ended on a great note. Finally made it to a 1/4 mile strip. "The Rock" (Rockingham Dragway in North Carolina) Temps about 52ish with a definate headwind. All these past months I've been tweaking, fine tuning, and discovered that with every single tweak on any one particular circuit would require readjustment of another circuit or two. Most tweaking was with the step-up springs, and the accelerator pump settings. Saw incremental improvements each time. Also did a plug change along the way, swapping NGK's for some Autolite Racing plugs and did the David Vizard mod to the ground straps. (even more cutback than they come) A little this, a little that, all in the quest to get as close to an 11.99 et. The first run at The Rock saw my best to date 1/8 mile et and mph, and the second run was another best on every mark except the 60' Ran 12.19@107.64 for the 1/4 and 7.70@88.9 for the 1/8. Traction at the line was not the best with the temps being what they were, but the cool really helped on how it ran down the track. Did suffer fuel starvation on the top end (you can hear it at the end of the video) not seen in the previous 1/8 mile runs. Will now need to up grade to 3/8" line (already running Carter srip mechanical and Carter electric) Over the winter project and stuff a 4.10 in it.....we'll see what that does:eek: I can almost taste 11.99! Pretty happy regardless

I raced a Ford Currier bodied truck in Super Pro, and I thought that wheelbase/shape was a trip @ 120 Mph. I can't imagine driving an upright freezer shaped rig to 107 mph in the 1/4!!! Man thats cool!!

I agree, I'm just glad winter is round the corner and this thing can go up on stands for a few months, I've got a ton of stuff that's been neglected that the wooby wishes I was as persistent on! :(:rolleyes:

You know, I was going to stay out of this but you keep dragging it up. So I'll help you out. I worked in production engine rebuilding shops. They make money three ways. They by parts in bulk and get a big break. They cut corners, especially on **** like balancing, finish honing, setting clearances and accurate machining. Third, they blow you up on the warranty.

So I'm not talking out of my ***. I'm TELLING you from experience. They can't do it any cheaper than any one else except by what I posted. I'd bet everything I have that your balance job is at least, AT LEAST 10-15 grams off. Will you know it? No. But I would have. I'd catch it on the balancer and I'd make it under 5 grams for a street car. That's how they make their money.

Oh yeah, they pay like ****, most people that work there aren't machinists and only do what they are told and have no idea why they do or don't do something. They don't know if it's right or wrong or what it should be.

So there you have it. From EXPERIENCE. You may get lucky. You may not.

BTW, bet they didn't use a torque plate on it either.
So that "horrible" balance job, the boring without a torque plate, etc- sounds just like a Chrysler crate motor , or one from a new car back in the day. It is amazing those old motors ever ran long enough to make it off the assembly line. :)
