So after having driven the cuda on a 1700 mike round trip to Tucson Arizona for the Roadkill Ziptie drags, I let it sit for several weeks since the heater isn’t working and I don’t have carpet yet so the open trans tunnel makes for a breezy ride. So the other week my buddy wanted to Cruise it on the backroads so we headed to the gas station. There was an old lady trying to get in a spot to fill up so I decided to let her in by backing up... and what did I hit?? The freakin plate that the gas trucks use to fill the gas stations up with gas!! I knew I hit somthing but had no idea what so We got out and looked underneath, sure enough my exhaust was hanging down. I said “let’s just limp it home and fix it there”. So we get in and it won’t steer!!!!! Turns out, the exhaust tip caught the edge off the gas plate and pushed all the exhaust forward and the header got smashed and crumpled around the tie rod!!! There goes my $700 headers. Wonder if Doug’s would sell a single header?

Buy I piece of header tube from Summit and repair it. You wouldn’t believe how I had to modify my headmen headers to get an engine diaper on my Duster

thats not a bad idea, thanks! my buddy is a fabricator so i asked if he could but he was thinking around $200 for his shop to do it. man thats a costly screw up!

Years ago, for no good reason, I decided to go "for a drive" on the 4th of July. Ended up somewhere in W Montana in a little town, forgotten, either Libby, Troy or Missoula I'd guess. I pulled into this little old gas station to use the lavatory, it was DIRT around back. I started to turn around. Turned out to be a FLAT STEEL PLATE in the dirt, the front tire kicked it up and the damn thing caught like a pogo stick under the front rocker, and "up and over" lifted the car an inch or two as it went over center. Left a REALL POS of a dent in the lower rocker, visible of course but not all that serious.

I’m sure the little old lady was thankfull to the nice gentleman who let her in to get gas , treat every body like there your grandparents and the world will be a better place . Sorry bout the headers ,but thanx for being a stand up guy !

The little old lady thought
" damn hoodlums in a beat up old hotrod! They should get a job ! "
Lol

These days it seems every time I do something nice for someone it comes back to bit me, you just can't win.

I was at Quaker City dragway back in the 80's with my AAR Cuda and the tech guy said I had to put ducktape over a hole on my firewall, no big deal right, so he told me to back into the grass while another car went on the scale. The tech guy guides me back in between to trucks on the grass and BAM I hit something, I pull up a bit and get out to see what I hit and it was a 6" well casing and it went just under my bumper and smashed the valance panel and the gas tank, then when I pulled forward it just hooked my bumper and pulled it out about 2" in the middle, then the tech guy that caused the problem looked at it and said due to the damage on the gas tank I couldn't race.
