Thieves Steal Convoy Of Brand New Rams From Factory In ‘Well-Planned’ Heist

No less than 10 brand-new Dodge Ramsrolled off the assembly line and on to burst through the factory gate at the Fiat Chrysler Warren Truck Assembly Plant early yesterday morning, a “cluster theft” of surprising size and audacity.

What’s not exactly clear is the purpose of the theft, whether it was for pieces of the Ram like navigation systems, or if the trucks were to be shipped off to a foreign buyer. But what is apparent is how bold the crime was, as the Detroit Free Press reports:

A security guard called Warren Police before dawn Thursday, watching in disbelief as a convoy of stolen 2018 Ram trucks crashed through the gate at the Fiat Chrysler Warren Truck Assembly Plant.

Trucks fresh off the assembly line.

They headed south on Mound Road. And disappeared.

“This was well-planned,” said Warren Police Commissioner Bill Dwyer. “They were able to take at least 10 or 11 Ram trucks out on a convoy.”

Nope, that's a GM only thing.
But to be perfectly honest with you, I'm shocked this hasn't happened sooner. I got to tour the Mound Rd plant a few years back, there is a massive lot with trucks packed in there from fence to fence and every one of them have the key in the ignition. I remember thinking, the only thing from keeping anyone from just driving one off, was honesty.

They couldnt have gone far.
Vehicles are shipped with very little fuel in the tank. I think 3 gals is the limit. It has to do with shipping regulations.

Here in Kansas City it's not unusual to see Fords stacked everywhere. I think it was during the floods when the rails shut down, they had them parked at World's Of Fun, local non Ford dealerships, Royals/Chiefs stadium, pretty much anywhere there was a semi-secure lot. I was always amazed that a bunch didn't walk off.

I'm very surprised to hear about this heist; the parts can't be worth that much...

Must've been Vin Diesel. He's been slinking around the Dodge camp for awhile now. At least we know Paul Walker's innocent.

I'll bet that they've gone overseas or down south by now.
Or maybe to a chop shop where the V.I.N.s etc. will be changed from wrecks on to them............

Chrysler version of onstar is "U-connect"

not sure how similar but does have GPS

I`d bet money their in mexico , they were doing it w/ 4 wheelers a while back !

South on Mound Rd means there headed for Detroit. 65'

Just load them in a enclosed semi trailer, never see them again.

Sounds like a publicity stunt for a movie
At first I thought fast and fuzziest, but when I realized they were dodge rams it could only be for one movie...the Italian job

I think it is standard procedure to leave keys in vehicles in assembly plant lots, a lot easier than trying to keep track of thousands of keys. After all it is supposed to be a secure lot.

The southern edge of the Mound rd. plant property is on 8 mile rd. The northern border of Detroit is 8 mile rd.

Probably won't see those trucks ever again.

Because they are new vehicles they haven't been titled yet. The possibilities are endless.

Not the first time this has happened... Pretty common for cars to be stolen from storage lots at the assembly plants.
