Ford to focus on Trucks and SUVs???

-
They all have plenty to bash. I agree that Fiat owning Dodge sucks and think that they should stay with Cummins. That is why most people bought a Dodge diesel.
I agree 100% Im afraid that we have lost Chrysler corp and there just going to keep peddling the **** they like in Europe in the US, I don't think it will be long before the beloved Cummins is gone replaced by a Fiat diesel and I fear the Hemi will be next on the chopping block.

You cry baby homo's I just said that to get you all stirred up. I love me an old Ford truck just seen this one the other day and had to take a picture of it because it was so nice...

Son in law with Eco Diesel Ram, gets great mileage ( all highway), he loves it. Last year with about 40,000 miles it had 5-6 trips to dealer with overheating problem. Eventually they fixed it, never could find out what was wrong!!
I will keep my '95 Ram 3500 Cummins 12 valve thank you all. Met guy last week with new one, seems the deal here in Texas is have all the pollution stuff taken off, It got his mileage back up to where the old 12 valve is.
Of the big 3 US carmakers, I admit I have to give kudos to Ford for many reasons. But car makers remind me too much of politicians, pretty much to all suck.

Removing "all the Emissions stuff" is a felony. Just saying.... In every state. EVEN Texas......

Might be, but if the State does not do emissions-safety inspections, then nobody is going to get caught. And I don't see the Feds coming around doing spot inspections either.

I like my old 12 valve Cummins, and for one thing its paid for!!!!!!! Another thing, those TF in them, it ain't always the trans that's slipping, its the computer FU !!!

Going back to the original theme, I can readily see US carmakers going with fewer models, just like them getting rid of Ply division , and GM lesser divisions, like Pontiac.

And there is way more profit in making a damn truck too! Stronger product, less to go wrong? And styling??? AT least the trucks have some style.

Yep, I am thinking my next NEW truck will be an '89 PowerWagon!!!!!!!!

Screw that it's your truck. If you want to take the emissions crap off do it. We all know the E.P.A. is just a bunch of crooks.

I agree and I don't! I love the clean air, but I would love to not have all the mileage robbing smog crap on my new truck....Ever been to China? You cannot breath, and there smog laws are now stricter then in California. But they were too late implementing them...We need to protect out only home, Earth....

I don't claim to be an expert, but I could not find one word regarding diesel-powered vehicles. In the Texas counties where emissions testing is done, they state: "Subject Vehicles: Gasoline vehicles model-year 2-24 years old are required to have an annual emissions inspection beginning with the vehicle's second anniversary."
So it would appear that the diesel guys can get away with whatever they want.

My Cummins her in Tx is an old 12 valve!!!! Ya can't wear it out, will run even on old ATF ( filtered thru paint strainer! ...... NO I don't)...... point I was making was about the newish cummins and their mileage robbing "stuff"......

I just read something yesterday that said that the Japanese car companies, which have been banking on their cars selling well, are also seeing declining sales of cars while sales of trucks and SUVs are going up.

they have always sold more trucks & suv's than anything else. still sold a crapload of escorts and focuses when I worked there.
wonder if this will be a huge flop like killing the Taurus name when I was at the dealer. also find it hard to believe they will stop selling mustangs, heck that GT was just released a few months back.
The Taurus turned into a spider car, so low u had to crawl out of it . I think that's why the suv and trucks are so popular. I thot killing the mercury grand marquis was dumb, about the only ford I liked. Have had 2 mustangs in the family and one of my own, NOT a fan !

The one in the pic is a current model. Cops like them because they are big, AWD, and have 365 h.p. Ford will lose that market too.

Ford (and others) are exploiting a well-crafted loophole in fuel economy regulations that makes bigger more profitable. In 2011, the industry won a change in the EPA’s calculation of Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE). The “footprint rule”—which refers to the area within the perimeter of the four wheels—calculates a vehicle’s fuel economy as a function of its size. The rule change effectively incentivizes building larger vehicles by holding them to progressively easier standards. As a result, the largest and most profitable vehicles also enjoy the lowest relative costs of compliance.

Ford’s announcement to abandon sedans was more about the weather in Washington, D.C. than a defined corporate strategy.

Management has calculated that it will no longer need the mileage offsets from sales of smaller, less-profitable vehicle lines to meet its CAFE obligations.

Maybe, but I bet that after a few more years, Fiat will be selling Chrysler. Fiat sales in the US are stagnate right now. The poor quality is catching up with them. Lots of people having lots of problems. When Fiat sales in the US tank, Fiat will sell.

ford underbid everyone else for the city vehicles around here. The city diesels are getting 8 mpg no matter how u drive them(1 tons) . All the cop cars , including my daughters are suv`s they are quiting thew Taurus around here.

municipalities and counties tend to go with FWD for mileage

state LEA tends to go with RWD for high speed performance and traditional maneuvering ability
