Your rad tube is setting lower then the water pump inlet. My rad tube is about an 1" higher and off to the right side , kind of a dog leg.

I know exactly what you are talking about. Mine has the same thing. (Aluminum radiator, 400, passenger side water inlet water housing). The guy I bought my Barracuda had an interesting setup in there. Looks like a chrome flex hose with two sections of rubber hose connecting it to the radiator and water pump housing. I will try to remember to get some pictures of it tonight. Please IM me if I forget and don't respond soon. There are some tight complex bends in that hose!!
