Why did Mopar make so many green cars?

-
who didn't have, or know someone who had "avocado" appliances.

we actually had a purple refrigerator...and it was an AMC brand!

I have an FF4 Challenger, I don't think it is that bad of a color, may actually paint it back that color.
Way better than the diaper **** brown my duster came with, and I am painting orange.
Moms old Imperial is triple green and still nice, Sherwood forest green, is still pretty.
Just saying alot of cars were green back there, and also brown.

A troll who constantly bashes Mopars on another site asked this question. We know Earth-tones were popular around 1970 with all of the Big 3 because of the "save the Earth" mood. But why was green seen on so many Mopars? Anyone here have special knowledge of this?

Cause they sold.

They didn't get trashed as much as the other colors, so that is why there are so many left.

My 70 340 Duster was originally F8. Someone along the way changed it to F5. Hoping to get it back to its original color someday soon. Hoping to get it done over next winter.

I sold a 69 road runner to .a friend of mine back in 1983. I then restored the car for him with a unlimited budget. Car was F-8 and was repainted the same color. Turned out very nice. He entered it in a lot of car shows but it never could pull off a 1st place. We then took the car completely apart, painted it Lemon twist Yellow, this was the only change. Car won best of show at almost every show it was entered. Color does matter.

Everybody made a boat load of green cars back then. Only Mopars lasted so you think that's all there ever was.

Why are so many silver or white now?

I was told by a dealer that White, tans, silvers and gray are neutral colors and easier to sale. Some colors take a special person to actually want that color. This color looks nice in person, actually has a pearl coat to it.

In a 'Custom' category?

Repainting in a different color is not 'Restored'.

He did win the World of wheels car show at Curtis Hixon Hall in Tampa. But most were local car shows. Some were Best Street driven, Best over all. Etc. He had no interest in Concours type shows.

For me personally f8 green is one of my favorite colors.
An aar or ta in f8 green looks stunning to me .

Hey I was around then, and green was one of the most popular colors from 1968 thru 73. Not just cars, but house appliances, carpet, and house colors. Muscle cars, Sedans, Wagons, it didn't matter. To this day I have four green cars, a 68' Charger, 1969 Coronet, a 1969' Cuda 383 four speed, and a beautiful 1971 Demon. After green, yellow was right up there back in 69'. same went on Camaros, Mustangs, and Chevelles..
Back in 1971 the two fastest cars on base was a 70' Chevelle 454(Green) and a 1971 440 GTX six pack four speed.(Dark Green) The Mopar won most of the time. There was a fast 428 Cobra jet 1970 Torino, and it was Yellow! but it lost most of the time. once in a while a Guy off TDY showed up with a 69' Hemi Superbee, the game was over. and it was yellow!(Minot AFB, North Dakota)Feb 1971-Aug 1972)
The Coronet in the picture is F8 green, and the Cuda, not shown is also F8 Green. The Charger is TT1 Green.

The red GTX shows I am not totally color Blind! HAHAHA

I agree that the Green cars sold well. Pontiac made a LOT of green cars as well.
It was a sign of the times. Look at the cars of the 40s and 50s. They had drab looking blues, light browns, black and military green. Today, consumers seem to be stuck on silver, white and black. I hate seeing a sea of white, silver and black vehicles....Our B-5 Challenger really stands out on the freeway!
I love this car.JPG

I agree. All these plain colors make me think people are boring. People in bright vibrant colors make me think they may be interesting.

I agree,
If I couldn't own an original hemi orange challenger(not grey, or white) with white interior, not BLACK, and SOME chrome, I would buy it. They made it, I bought it.
great car! Even with the 3.6 it is as fast as my 340 Dart, and 25MPG. I love the dart, but today is today.
