Also just for your info all the parts inside a small block 727 will fit a big block 727 and vice versa.
I'm aware, but thanks. I have had this BB 727 sitting under a bench for 3 years now and just now bothered to drag it out and check the pan rail numbers. Dang it. Had already sold the smb trans.

If you have transmission sitting around you can use those parts I can walk you through it pm. your number.

out put shaft and housing will work from the trans under your bench just trying to save you money if I can help you.

I don't now. The smb trans is being shipped this week, already paid for, and the 66 is sold as of this afternoon. So what I have is the one in the truck that I need a tail for.

use all the parts from truck trans and just change the output shaft and housing from the one under the bench?

I appreciate it. really do, but i'm pretty much out of options at this point. Wish I had checked that pan rail a day or two earlier...lol.

Ghostrider 67 it was a pleasure talking to you.
Does this look like it's in all the way?

looks like it should go in a little further like it needs about another 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch. Put your hand with a glove on the center hub push it while spinning the converter with the other hand wiggle it up and down sometimes it helps if the transmission is in park....

I will have to deal with it in the morning now. I will give it another try. Thanks..

Sometimes getting these to go in is easier if you make sure trans is in park. Take the converter all the way out put trans in park and with a little luck it will go right in. I spin the converter and hold up on the center of the converter and wiggle it up and down and poof they usually go right in. If the front pump bushing is tight put a little trans fluid on the converter snout....

Okay.

Need a passenger car rear tail housing for a big block 727. Have a trans out of a pickup truck that's going in a car. Thanks all. Ghost.

What is that set-up. Looks totally different from my 74 PW W100. My SB trans has a short drive shaft from the trans to the divorced transfer case. Is that an overdrive unit? I want to go with late model Hemi in the truck and told the BB case is the way to go. I figure I can use the SB tail and main shaft on a B.B. case and get there. Kinda the opposite of what you are trying to accomplish.

Keep in mind they changed the spline angle sometime in the mid seventies so earlier output shafts won’t work in later planetaries and visa versa. Your 74 came with a divorced 205 and a stubby 727, lockout hubs and drum brakes. The OP truck looks like a later model CAD setup. Your 74 didn’t have overdrive, and if you are going with a new hemi the small block case is the way to go since it will pretty much bolt on.

I was confused the OP said 73/74. I agree as my PW is the 205 and stubby, I was under the impression the late Hemi used the BB housing type. If my SB housing is the way to go then all the better.

Yeah, I confused everyone I guess, What I mean is, the 440 motor AND the 727 are 1973/74 units. The rest of the parts are 86 power ram CAD. The output shaft from this 727 and the back half that connects to the transfer case are for sale to anyone who has a set up like this and wants a BB in their truck. I will be using the front half of this 727 with a different output shaft, and tail stock. It would normally have had a 318/360 in it.

I think everyone switched gears a little. Late model hemi use small block bolt pattern if my memory is correct. Have a great evening everyone.

If their the same year series that's true but through the yrs they made quite a few parts changes. The front splines on the output shaft changed angles in 76 and again in 93. Pumps had some changes as well as rear clutch carriers also

Have complete BB 727 car trans 87k miles for sale, $250 plus the shipping. will include all bolts, converter etc. check e-bay under 440/727. I'm in Idaho, would ship by Fastenal.

Thanks, but I have a transmission, 3 actually. Two are sold which is why I don't just take the tail end off one. I have a tail shaft and housing coming already. I'm good, thanks.:D
