1967 k member upgrades (idler)

I completed the work to the k memeber. I have posted the pictures below and more in the next post. I Seam Welded all-the-way-around on the 50 year oil soaked car part. It has it challenges. There was a lot of contaminates in the seams. I used a propane torch to heat the edges to burn out the oil. I was conservative and only heated the edge and skipped around the paremeter avoid warpage. This helped some but not 100%. Your welds will look nasty and riddled with personify....just Grind them out 2-3 times to get a clean weld.

I then moved to adding plates to the lower control arm and steering box mount.

Templates cut. I went larger than just a washer to spread out any localized stress to al larger area....can’t hurt.

Tacked in place...I stuffed a cotton rag in the tube to keep weld berries out.

Do not use sheet metal any thicker than .120 or the lower control arm will be too short. Grind everting flush so the washer and bolt for the LCA has a good seat.
