Have a weird one here, at least to me. New light switch, checked dimmer switch, it works good but still have no high beams. High beam indicator works with dimmer switch but no lights when on high setting . Not sure where to look. Any ideas????

Low beams work fine. Grounded 3 ways from h---. Is there a diagram showing how to check the switch properly. Too many connections for me to figure out which posts should have continuity to other posts.

I'm gunna guess that high beam circuit has to go thru the firewall. Given the reputation of these cars bulkhead connectors I would suggest checking there. Also be sure u don't just have 2 high beams burnt out!

This is a simple circuit. Power to the headlights comes from the light switch, goes down to one terminal of the dimmer switch. It simply switches between high and low. Each wire, high and low, then feeds out through the bulkhead connector to the headlights. Most years have a common ground. It's not unheard of to blow up two lamps at the same time. Wiring diagrams and factory service manuals are free, over at MyMopar. Some of them came from the guys on here.

The high beam indicator is fed (branched) off the output of the dimmer, so if the indicator is working, so is the dimmer switch. All this leaves is

the bulkhead connector terminal

the actual wire to the headlights

the splice feeding to the two high beam filaments.

and the high beam filament in the lamps themselves

Guess burned out is possible but just installed two new lamps prior to this problem. If that is the issue what would cause both to burn out?

New doesn't mean they are good.....unlikely that you got 2 dead bulbs but...Have you checked the plug going into the bulbs for power?

Everything was fine when first installed, all worked . Will have to check out all again.

Easy to tell use a test light and test for power at the headlight bulb plug.

Yep, and two terminals of the high/low switch should have power when the light switch is on.
One should be dead until the high low switch is switched, and then the dead one should have power and the other not.

Have a little time to check some things. Engine off, low beam lights work with slight discharge on ammeter. On high beam indicator light works, no lights, ammeter shows full discharge. Only pulled one headlight , it tests good (continuity on all pins) . New fromt wiring harness. Why the full discharge and no lights. My above posts have more information.

I told you how this works, "above."

The only thing common to the problem starting at the dimmer switch as follows.....................the switch has 3 terminals. One gets power FROM the light switch. of the other two, one is hot in low, the other is hot in high. THAT TERMINAL, the "high" terminal, branches off and feeds the indicator lamp, and feeds through the firewall (bulkhead connector)

FROM THERE coming into the engine bay, it is ONE WIRE to the high beams. Goes around the side to the front, branches off to the two headlights.

Sounds to me like you have a full -- on short

Could be a shorted headlight. Disconnect both headlights FIRST and see if the ammeter stops acting up. Then plug them back in one at a time

Might be the "new" harness is mis--wired somehow or has a cross--connect to the grounding wire.

When horns were installed the very edge of the light harness got pinched behind the edge of a bolt head. It was difficult to notice it being pinched without very closely looking. It took a little time but the pinch eventually shorted out just one wire.
