How do you clean/remove rust on the inside of chrome bumper?

I was thinking about dumping my bumpers in the 55 gallon mix of molasses/water I have. However, once I damaged some piston pins that I left in molasses for a week or so. Not sure what would happen.

Muriatic acid from the local hardware store will take ALL the rust off right NOW without waiting, but won't hurt the steel or chrome.
It doesn't "convert" or any of that, but eats rust down to clean steel.

(Funny how someone disagrees with my post but doesn't say a word about why):D
