I have been thinking about ditching the lap/shoulder combo belts in my 73 Duster. They don’t reel back in super well and the solid shoulder belt is annoying. In order to release the E brake or reach for something is annoying. I’ve been googling and not much helpful comes up. Anybody have any experience with any options?

I’m trying to think if what I’d like is even possible. Modern belts retract from the shoulder. This would have to retract and “float” from the lap belt. That may not work. I need to think about this for a second.

If you want it to retract from the shoulder, you've got no where to put the retractor. There's no hidden space up there, it would hang off the hard top structure. Modern cars put all that stuff inside the B pillar, you don't have one. And modern cars have larger pillars anyway.

The ones from seatbeltplanet work just like the originals with the retractor on the mounted to the floor/rocker, with just a shoulder loop that hangs down from the upper anchor.

Well I guess I was thinking along the lines of say a Crown Vic. The reel is in the bottom. There is a slotted loop where our shoulder anchors.

For shoulder harness type belts I use these. The reason I like them is that they are inexpensive and they are factory made for an actual vehicle (HUMVEE). For this reason they function very smoothly, like the ones on a modern car. I've bought and used the aftermarket shoulder harness belt and they are expensive and are always "clunky", they don't retract well and they are restrictive...oh, and they cost a lot more.
These Humvee belts are military surplus but brand new, somebody probably bought a truckload real cheap and they sell them on ebay. I installed a pair in my daughter's car and they work very smoothly just like a new car!!
I'll never buy another type again, only the Humvee belts!! They also come with extra parts that you can use for other stuff!!

That's the same as the one's I linked. Just get an 8" extender on the shoulder loop so the belt is in the right spot.

Yeah, but no drop on the shoulder anchor. If they don't fit right they won't work right.

Im running a set from seatbelt solutions in my 68 coronet, 3pt retractable and I got them with the factory style buckles too keep the car looking somewhat original ....

When I bought them, they were called "WELR-L" but it looks like that changed.

I Ordered mine with the 15 1/2" floppy inside belt. Totally happy with these belts.

I can’t find them on their website. Wonder if they discontinued them.

If you plan to buy the aftermarket belts made by Seat Belt Solutions, sold by seatbeltsplus.com and seatbeltplanet.com, be sure to check the measurements on the belts you're buying. On the ones I ordered the piece that attaches to the driveshaft hump is WAY too long. It reaches halfway around my body when I buckle the belt, so the belt rides up around my rib cage. In other words, it doesn't fit at all. Fortunately the vendor agreed to give me a full refund. I called the manufacturer but all they said was probably the vendor ordered the wrong thing (each set of belts is made to order).

You just have to specify the right dimensions. Measuring the stock equipment is always a good idea before ordering custom made stuff. But they do list options for the lengths of each part of the belt, and they have options for both bench and bucket seats. Or at least they did when I ordered from seat belt planet. My belts work great with the buckets in my car.

It's a bench seat car and the kit was supposed to fit bench seat A, B, and E body cars from 71-74. The frustrating thing is the picture shows straps that would be the right length, but the actual kit was different. The straps with female ends (that bolt to the driveshaft hump) are 22" long, which is obviously WAY too long. The vendor tried to tell me it was the right kit. They had another picture (which I didn't see before ordering) that showed the 22" length. Here's what I got, shown beside the factory belt:

Will these fit my dodge demon
I just last week had my factory belts shortened by 4 inches at an upholstery shop. They are much better now (lap belt stays around my hips instead of my belly). Again, my Swinger is a 1974. The belts were changing just about every year in those days, so my experience may only be relevant if you have a 1974 with bench seat.
