My 7-1/4 has quite a badly worn ring and pinion but i know where there's a better one very cheap but its 4 inch pcd and mine's 4.5, just wondered if my ends would swap over.

"pcd"???

Are you referring to wheel bolt pattern?

I thought all 7-1/4 rears used small bolt pattern axles, on slant six cars even after 1973.

Nope, i put a 7-1/4” in in saturday. it had big bolt pattern.
Diffs with same axle length will interchange.

The guy has all that stuff as well, i just want to know if i can swap my larger stud pattern parts, over to the other axle to avoid changing my draglites.

The big bolt patterns have 3inch tubes versus smaller on the 4s, requiring matching shock brackets and U-bolts. Not sure about springs.
Sorry, this is not the case.
All A-Body 7 1/4" axles used 2 1/2" axle housing tubes. The large bolt pattern versions were used in both Slant six and V8 models with front disc brakes.
The U bolts were made longer for the 1967 and later models but the mounting plates are the same design from 1963-76.

im working on a 67 cuda 273 with drum brakes all around it has a 9 bolt 7 1/4 27 spline and it has small bolt pattern. it was a restore a few years ago
