My son was 4 years old. and I would always let him play with tools while I was working on a car.,
The one day I went for a 3/8 drive extension and I couldn't find one. Now, I had a lot of extensions. all lengths all sizes. They were gone.

I thought well I would just use a 1/2 inch drive with and adapter. Went to the drawer and they were gone. then I looked all the 1/4 inch were gone too.

I didn't want to buy any so I would borrow what I needed off of my in-laws. They had a NAPA store up the road. I asked my son several times if he new where the extensions were . He would just shrug his shoulders and say no.

The one day about two months later I was at the NAPA store and my son was along in the Tow Truck. I needed a longer extension so I went to borrow one. Dave asked, Didn't you ever find your extensions. Disgusted I said no.

When he brought the extension out my son said. I have some of them pipes. Our eyes opened up wide I said where? He said at home.

We got home and I told him to get them. He went in the shed and got out his toy Backhoe I bought him when he was watching them run the sewage. He dug for a little while and sure enough there they all were He stuck them together in a straight row. About 10 feet worth

Some were rusty and when I look at them pitted in the box today it always brings a smile to my face

Dave at the NAPA store still brings that up to him.

I have three grandsons, Two living here at my house at this time. Ages 1 1/2, Two and four. They are sneaky and I watch them like a hawk. When they peak around the corners they are up to no good. LOL.

I once lost a 1/4 inch ratchet
Couldn't find it for ever
Until one day my boy asked me to do something with his tricycle...goes what I found kicking around in his saddlebag?

My 2yr old son has a fetish for my 18v impact and anything that fits in the chuck. He also has a collection of tape measures and screw drivers.

The "like" button doesn't do this post justice.

That is one of the best posts I have seen on this site in a long time.

Makes me think about when I was very young and something I did. We lived with my grandparents until I was maybe 5 and my parents got their first house.

Down in the basement was a big pile of random pieces of pipe, all different lengths and diameters, with elbows, tees, and couplers on them. I had seen my grandfather working on the plumbing, so I had a vague clue about assembling them.

So I proceeded to start trying to screw together as much of it as I could make fit together, until I made some big crazy looking hodgepodge of pipe, looking like something I remember seeing on a three stooges TV program.

I never heard anything about it, but I bet it probably made my grandfather smile when he saw it.

When I was 4, my neighbor built a garage, a tiny 1 car garage that still stands. When he was framing it up, he had a diagonal member along both walls to keep the framing aligned. Even at 4 or 5, I was smart enough to notice "that board was crooked" so I asked him about it.

He told me, "oh that board is VERY important. If that wasn't there, the entire garage would fall down."

So!!!! I snuck over there a few times and made a few saw cuts with my "toy" carpenter's set, which back in those days, were "real," no plastic, and pretty soon, I had it cut in half!!! He laughed about that for years

This is the garage, here. Those folks are long gone. The old house next to it was my first "consious" memories, we moved out when I was six

When my 31 yr old son was 2 laying tight under the Coronet, I asked for a wrench, he found an 1 1/4" combination (big wrench) and dropped it on that soft spot just under the knee cap. I tightened up banged my forehead on the car, pulled back banged my head on the concrete floor, went back and forth like that twice.

Came out from underneath and how can you be angry at that little 2 yr old face looking at you. I was limping for 2 days.

My son got married a couple weeks ago.
I couldn't have been happier or more proud.
Still, you have no idea how bad I miss my little boy and what I would give to get him back.
I found his Tonka trucks in the shed at my moms house the other day, I just about broke down.
They grow up and we get older.
