I have gotten tired of my water pump dripping all over everything, so I have finally decided to replace it. I have everything apart and ordered some new hoses and clamps and thermostat. While I was able to get the smaller heater hose fitting out of the top of the water pump, I cannot get the larger fitting for the bypass hose out of the water pump. I am having a hard time finding the replacements for these two fittings to replace them. The new water pump came with the brass fitting in the picture, but that is obviously not what the bypass hose attaches to. Can anyone point me in the direction of the replacements for these two water pump fittings or does anyone have these two that they would be willing to sell? This is for a small block of that matters. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Take a propane torch and heat the old pump where the fitting screws in and it should come out.

So this did not go as planned. Here is what I have as of now. The old fitting is not coming out of the old water pump. I bought new stainless fittings (like the ones on Year One), and the new fitting will screw into that bypass hose hole just as that big brass adapter will. But the new fitting is clearly not right for the diameter of the bypass hose. I tested it by installing the new bypass hose on the new stainless fitting with a Corbin clamp and I could pull it off by hand. So there must be some type of adapter that goes into that brass fitting that came with the new water pump. Anybody got any idea what that fitting would be (size in particular) and better yet where I might get one? I went to my local NAPA and they could not offer any help. So I’m a little desperate now as this is holding up me getting this damn thing back together.

You're using what appears to be Chinese Garbage, That's likely why nothing's fitting. If your new pump came with that brass "thing", toss all of it and start over. No respectable manufacturer would supply **** like that.

It looks to me like that new brass fitting is too small anyway. If you got it from NAPA, try Autozone, Advance, Rock Auto, hell, even try the dealer.

What pump manufacturer is that from? Looks like there are 2 different styles of pumps, one has 3 ports and one has 2. I used a "close nipple" in the same size as the larger pipe and it worked. It ends up looking like this. I dont know what the small plug is for. Your brass adapter is probably to adapt the original OD of the OEM pump fitting..

none of this crap looks right to me !

Most water pumps come with the bushing for the smaller bypass hose. Not sure when they went to the larger bypass hoses, this is my 67 273 with the iron pump.

Water pump came from Year One. I think I may try to order the one labeled OE Replacement on Rock Auto and see if that works any better. It looks to me like the fitting in the original pump would screw into that brass fitting. Both pumps only have two openings (the pics just look decieving).

Are you trying to use the larger bypass hose?
Some pumps have the smaller hose size threads, looks like what you have.
What is on the intake?
Ok I just looked pictures of the 69 I use to have and it looked to have the larger hose.

Two choices, bush the intake smaller and use the smaller hose or get the correct pump.

Going to work on trying to get the correct water pump. Old water pump and intake have the larger fitting. Just can’t seem to figure out where to locate the correct pump based on the unreliable info on the internet.

I have only once got one with the smaller threads, it may be what they get it from cores.

I’d look for one that shows the bushing (threaded adapter) although you don’t need it, like this one
https://www.oreillyauto.com/detail/...c201250/4608162/1969/plymouth/barracuda?pos=0

Also if you look at the pictures you can see the difference. Oreily had two pumps listed for a 69 Barracuda with a 318. If you look at both you can see the difference. The difference can be seen in both the diameter of the hole and the space around the hole.

Another thing to watch out for is the boss sizes where the alternator mounts. I got a new water pump for 67 273 cuda and the bosses needed grinding down. I would have rebuilt my original if I could get a kit.
I had same issue with hose nipples. I bought a multi pack that included oem style.
