Thats because it was the most gentle on the ducks, not because it worked.....do you have access to a large freezer? IF you can drop these in a freezer, the tar is supposed to get very hard and chip off, but dont flex the liners too much or they may crack too. WD40 would work too to soften the tar as well as a heat gun (careful on warping the plastic) or even motor oil.
