Apparently plastic wheel liners can rust Looking for help on best way to remove undercoating without damaging the wheel liners ?Help and suggestions appreciated.

Oh gas might work but the fumes are very dangerous.

Years ago I had to remove Ziebart undercoating from the entire engine bay of my 68 Formula S. I used Varsol and a plastic kitchen scraper/spatula. Takes a lot of time but it did the job. The plastic scraper did not damage the paint work, and shouldn't harm your liners either.

I have s set that need to be cleaned. They have been under coated I used oven cleaner to get most of it off and it doesn’t seem to hurt the plastic

Don't know what to suggest for undercoating. Back when my Barracuda was apart for restoration, in the late '80's, I did my best to clean 20 years worth of road tar off the red plastic liners. I tried several different products but mostly used bug and tar remover. I remember it took alot of time and effort and I remember letting it soak in a while. But all my efforts did fade the plastic liners a bit. Not sure if it was the bug and tar remover, Easy Off Oven Cleaner, gasoline, or some other product I tried that cased the color fade. What ever you use, I suggest trying it out on the reverse side first to determine if there is any discoloration.

They use dish washing detergent to clean the tar off of baby ducks after an oil spill??? But....undercoating has other things in it besides tar??

Thanks for the advice everyone I will try these products ! Nice looking barracuda’s ! Mine is still apart ( project car )

Thats because it was the most gentle on the ducks, not because it worked.....do you have access to a large freezer? IF you can drop these in a freezer, the tar is supposed to get very hard and chip off, but dont flex the liners too much or they may crack too. WD40 would work too to soften the tar as well as a heat gun (careful on warping the plastic) or even motor oil.

Looks like you have a convertible. The rear liners won't fit the convertible unless you cut and modify them to fit.
Saw the videos of yesterday's flooding in Ellicott City. I hope you and your's came through okay and with no damage.

"Thats because it was the most gentle on the ducks, not because it worked".....this statement doesn't make sense, if it didn't work they wouldn't use it. It is gentle on the ducks but they use it because it's gentle AND it removes the tar. I figured it would be gentle on the plastic liners as on the baby ducks.

When I had my car undercoated they removed the over spray with kerosene.

I don't want to hear of my Mopar brothers get badly burned by using gasoline.

I'm sure if the tar and oil were allowed to set on the ducks for 20 years Dawn detergent would have 0 effect
Probably so but since the average life span of a duck is 10 years...a 20 year old duck would be dead either way.

They are also safe to eat after as it has no side effect. lol

allow me to rephrase that for the lawyers...."Thats because it was the most gentle on the ducks, not because it worked the best". :p
