Hot Rod Slant Six article

-
Just read it and was going to post it here when i saw you beat me to it.
They talked the slant six down to much in the begging. Just seems like product placement and way too much over exaggeration. 22hp from changing a exhaust on a stock 50+ year old slant six, really, seems like a bit much. And by just changing to electronic ignition it can also performe just as well as modern cars I dont think so.

Always a fan of the "different". Straight sixes can be fun. Clifford Performance has nice upgrades for the 225/6.

They can complain all they want about sl/6 having sluggish acceleration, but I've driven some dangerously slow vehicles: like a std OHC Firebird with auto trans, and a Pinto 4cyl w/ auto trans. Compared to those cars, a stock a-body sl/6 w/auto is a tower of power, and is peppy as hell.

Oh boy, someone made them an out of the box HEI conversion that has been popular among Slant guys for over 15 years and they put a bigger exhaust on it. Much wow.

And why even bother with a dummy ballast resistor? That just seems like asking for another thing to go wrong.

You gotta keep in mind the tailpipe on an early A was only 1 3/4" factory, I can believe that from a header and free exh on that ride.

Lol! The 170cuin slant I used to run in my dart made 56rwhp bone stock, aftermarket muffler, but otherwise stock. I pulled the air filter and the lil 170 belted out 58whp! Then plugged in an electric leaf blower and crammed it over the little Carter 1bbl, next pull we hit a legit 61whp! Woot woot!

Ppen the exhaust and "unbolt" 22HP, get real. How about opening the head and unleashing some real numbers.

Why would anyone want an ign system, with no vacuum advance on a street car?

I remember when I read playboy.

Then I discovered genesis.

Lol, “Reading” Playboy and listening to Genesis. I was listening to Judas Priest. Only to find out years later that Rob Hallford probably wasn’t looking at Playboy.
But, we digress, this thread is about the leaning tower of power.

They need to do a little internet searching. There is a youtube of a guy running 9.09 sec 1/4-mile w/ a slant, albeit after adding a turbo-charger. Charrlie_S here recently posted running in the 12's w/ natural aspiration, and I recall he runs a 170 cu in slant. That speed can match the fastest factory Camaro, Mustang, even Hellcat & Demon.

Why don’t they let one of us have five grand and we make the article for them? I’d rather see real people do real numbers versus that junk. Custom made header with a big ol’ turbo, gapped rings and some 198 rods in a 170 should do nicely . Until then I’ll just park my junk next to the dodge demon here in town and hope it adds horsepower. Sitting next to it should add me about 50 wheel hp!

My 66 Valiant has a 225, and it does have nitrous. My Barracuda was a 170, also nitroused.

Not everyone knows how to build stuff for themselves, or even wants to. They would rather buy a manufactured "system", and just install it. But the problem with these articles is, they are just a infomersule. to sell parts. They don't care if the parts are worth buying or not
