Just received my recently released book on The Chrysler A-833 Transmissions by Jamie Passon, CarTech's number SA389. I had no idea of the variations in these things and a quick run-through of the book shows me it will be fun to strip mine apart and fix the nagging issues it has.

Jamie put a lot of time and effort into this while running his business and taking care of day-to-day activities associated with it. Not sure how one can do this but he did.

It is impressive so far and I will update with more after I have time to read it cover to cover. This is for sure a good buy for anyone with one of these incredibly strong four speeds in their cars or trucks!

Generally SA books suck, but that one is going on the bookshelf right next to Tom Hand's Chrysler automatics book.

I’ve got a SA Carter book and it’s fantastic! This one will be no different.

Did he cover any of the GM A833s? A guy recently hired me to put together one out of a GM FOUR WHEEL DRIVE. I had no idea they existed. "Married" transfer case. Someone bought the truck before I got it together LOL

Looked like this photo I found, same type of tail / transfer adapter

Some GM ones had Mopar bolt patterns, and some had a special case with GM bolt pattern. I don't remember what this one had for an input shaft, or in Mopar talk, "pinion"

67, as a matter of fact, i did see something about a GM A-833 and i will try to read more about it this weekend when I finally have time to go all the way through this.

I bought the book and already started my rebuild....
The book is very well written! There is no comparison to the factory manual. Even if you’re not rebuilding your A833, it’s a must have book.

I read through in more detail and now plan to get my 1969-340 Dart four speed out of my basement jail where it has resided for 33 years. I always wanted to strip it back apart (without an overseer like I needed back then) and Jamie's book will be just the ticket to help me do so!
It is great to have and now I know what company names the markings on bolts represent. And, I understand all the variations parts between 18 and 23 spline versions.
This book is well-worth the cost.

Just got Jamie's book and have already read thru it 20 times! If you are repairing your own A833, this is a great book. If you are restoring a Mopar 4-sp car you must have this book. For all years- he details all the casting details, casting numbers and what they mean. Casting details on main case and tail housing. Differences in shifter handles and mechanisms and even belhousings. This is a must-have book.

Jamie DOES mention the GM stuff but says he won't cover it in his book. The basic transmission should be about the same though.

I just got mine yesterday from Amazon but didn't have time to read it yet. Just read the first 2 chapters. There are over 400 photos. My only slight criticism so far is some of the close-up photos could be more clear. He meticulously documents factory shifters and bell housings too.

But it's a great book, can't wait to get into it more!
It's going to be an excellent source for me as I rebuild my trannies.

Where is a good place to order this? PAPER not some download LOL

Yeah it's old school paper.
Amazon is my primary "store" these days. If you don't like Amazon, I'd try a regular brick and mortar book store if you can find one. EBay or the Summit store should have it too.

Found one on ebay. Why am I up at six (five) in the morning? Because at 6:30 I have to head to WORK!!!

I learned my original four speed from my Dart has a broken and rewelded extension housing! Too many wheel hopping starts before I got it I bet.
