I have been interested in radial racing and small tire stuff for a couple of years but going to the race in Bowling Green has me amazed by what these guys are doing. Is anyone on here running any small tire classes or radial races?

small tire yes, radial no.

Don't be deceived to think small tire is slower or easier to be competitive in. It's quite the opposite. MOst of these guys are big tire cars with small tires bolted on.

I was not running in a class, just running them on my car. I found if the track surface is well preped they bite HARD, if not well preped it was like I was on ice, spin city.

The other thing I discovered about radials is that they will test your drive line to it's maximum. The stiff side walls that make the tires work are also what is responsible for their harshness on the drive line, there is no cushin as there is with a slick. If there is a week spot they will find it for you and let you know about it.

It just blows my mind that they are running low 4's and even high 3's on these radials and they do not run wheelie bars. That is a fine line to walk between hooking up on that tire and not having the car stand on its bumper every time, especially for the blower and N20 guys.

It's that sophisticated, now....

Power management.
x10...the software they have is incredible nowadays. Also with most of them being power adder cars, the progressive control is pretty crazy. Some of those guys 60 foot like a 9 second car...then comes the boost...

Ive seen some of these guys have 60' times below 1 second. Do they have progressive control for the big blowers too?

Yup, just because its mechanically driven doesn't mean they don't adjust the timing and fuel to come out softer/harder etc.

There are a few abodies racing in Limited Drag Radial, and X725 so im a little surprised none of them are on here.

An acquaintance runs in a NMCA class 8.60's on juice, one of the many sensors on the car is one in the front end that tells the controller how high the front end is off the ground......with that, why do you need wheelie bars

Now that is insane.

Have you checked out @Horseshoe49 s page on 71 Dart Transformation? I think he had the 71 at bowling green last weekend. He is still getting it sorted out but I believe you would call that a small tire car. Maybe he will chime in.

I fallowed his build from the start. I have been on this forum a long time and I honestly believe it is one of the most impressive builds on here. I cant think of anyone else running a small block mopar at those numbers.

Probably won't be long before they can just sit up in the stands and watch their car run.:D

Pretty wild that out of all the members on this forum there aren’t more guys out there running these radial races.

The thing that makes it unappealing to me is that I run the wheels and tires I run at the strip with on the street. This is why I usually run the DOT or street classes when they have them. I can also run heavy eliminator or any other slick class because my car dead hooks on my street tires. I personally have no interest in running radial tires. I've run sportsman pro MT tires for years and they've always worked well for me.

6PKRTSE is building a badazz small tire Challenger.
Tire technology has come a long way! My street car is not that quick at 10.69 but it is a blast to drive to the track with highway gears and the M/T 275/60 drag radial hooks like a huge slick.

I run 295/65/15 Mickey drag radials and the only problem I have had with them is tire shake. On a no prep track, if it spins at the hit - one pedal and it hooks back up. But on a heavily prepped surface it sometimes shakes so hard it breaks the 9 inch. I have lost the rearview mirror off the windshield twice as well. My car hates any pressure below 18psi. I tried them once at 25psi right off the street and it dead hooked.

Damn that's a great looking car there Bob.
MY OLD BIG block 73 dart ran a few 10.49 in the 1/4 with the same size and brand tire you have. My friend that has my old 71 Duster has been in the 10.30 at 132 mph with the same tire.

Here is a pick of my old 71 Duster that my friend has now. This was taken a few weeks ago
