I picked up some Cragar SS wheels but I’m confused as to which type of lug nut is best for the application. The hole in the wheel is countersunk with a 60 degree angle but it also has a recess for a mag washer. They are correct fit, not unilug, so it is a round hole.

Which type of lug nut is BEST for my application, 60 degree nut or shafted nut with washer?

Can you explain Why?

looks like they were used with acorns (or they are made like that for easier shank nut installation) WRONG APP!. Normally if the center is steel, you can run an acorn 60 nut, but if the center is AL like these composites, you need a shank nut as AL is softer than steel and an acorn will lose torque over time (and most likely will damage the hole). There is a washer recess for using shanked nuts. Use proper shanked nuts for a more uniform look.

Thanks. Summit indicated acorn, which I bought, but it looks like they should be shank. They do have the aluminum center so that makes sense about deforming the hole

Ok. I found this right in the Cragar web site for the 61C direct drill wheels...

  • 2-Piece Composite Chrome Plated Steel Rim With Aluminum Center
  • Direct Drill
  • Use Conical Seat Lug Nuts
  • Lug Nuts not Included, Order Separately

I have bought new, and run alum. wheels w/ acorn nuts too.

those are chamfered to use 60* nuts , I wouldn't deviate. besides I doubt you could get a shank lug nut in that hole and still fit the stud

Well blow me down. How do you get a washer on a conical nut?

I bought these wheels last fall used but in excellent condition. I bought four brand new BFG tires and had them mounted and balanced. I shined them to a show quality sparkle and stored them away until I could get more work completed on the project. Today I got to the point where I was ready to mount these babies on the car. I was excited to say the least.

Turns out they are freaking 5-4.75” bolt pattern instead of 5-4.5” like I was told when I bought them!!! I’m so freaking pissed. Now I’m $1500 into the set and I can’t even use them.

I bought 14 steelies that were widened to 8" and I could not fit them over my 10" drums. I thought the widening affected the 10" "helmet" drum fitment. Turns out they were 13's....I feel your pain. Worst part about it was that I sold them not knowing they were 13's to a guy and he called me and told me...I felt this small. I offered a full refund but he somehow understood it was an honest mistake and he was able to sell them to a 13"/9" drum user.
