Getting ready to send out the rear end to get freshened up. When I told the guy thats going the work for me that in its former life the Duster was used for Drag racing and that my goal is to get back to more an original state. He asked me which gearing I would want for the rear end. My question is what would normally a 1971, 340 4speed Duster come with regarding the rear end gearing.

Keep in mind my intentions is to restore and make a nice street car.

3.23 or 3.55 depends on how tall your rear tires will be .
I have 28'' tall tires and 3.91 gears and am around 3000 at 60 mph just for reference /

mine came originally with 323s.. I run 391s at present. if you want a nice driver I would recommend 355s

3:23 was standard, 3:55 and 3:91 were optional. Aftermarket has 3:73 also, but with a 4 speed, 3:55 is a excellent street gear

As far as the tire size goes.. As I stated before going with the look of when the car first came out of the factory.. so not sure but I think they came from the factory with 14's .

How much long distance drives will you do? 3.55's are great all around gear. You can get aftermarket 3.73's for a little more revs, but still less deep than 3.91's.
