I have a 65 Dart GT and I'd like to keep the original bucket seats but add headrests, for safety. Does anyone have an idea on how this could be done. I'd be happy with stationary headrests. I don't want to reupholster the seats.

Thanks
Vance

You'll have to install something like this in the seat frame.

Never actually done it. Was trying to find replacement hardware once for an old seat. Hard to find so I started looking at different alternatives. I would say pick your headrest first, buy applicable sleeves and measure twice. Especially if your seats are nice and/or hard to replace...............
Honestly, once you butcher them up with headrests, they aren't factory anymore so I would just buy safer seats to begin with.

remove the headrests from another car and weld the receivers into the frame, but youll have to take the seat apart to do it. That would be a challenge to find a spot to weld them to. I would personally find later seats and use them instead of hacking up the originals. You can use Sebring seats with integral shoulder restraint if safety is more important than looks. You can clad them in black pleather covers to get them the right color.

Use other seats that already have them and save yourself the headache of doing this job.Original seats are hard to come by and valuable keep them for later on when you sell the car to keep it original

I guess I'll just upgrade the seatbelts to a 3 point system and take my chances on getting rear-ended. I want to keep the car original so new seats isn't an option for me. Thanks everyone.

I'm going to swap seats to get headrests - my dad got whiplash in our '64 Dart wagon way back when and that sucked

I felt perfectly safe back in 1966-'71 in my '65 Dart. No headrest, single master cylinder, drum brakes and bias ply tires. Wish I didn't know now what I didn't know then.

Ain't that the F-ing truth! Riding around standing up in the seat as a kid, right? Never heard of seatbelts.

I used to sit on the rear seat fold down armrest in our 63 Lincoln. I thought it was made for me.
