1978 440 Help and Questions

I need some advice on the 440 that is in my 1978 Ramcharger.I have read the threads by IQ52 on low compression motors, but things have changed a bit.. I just want a good running smooth motor for my truck that is fairly efficient.This truck is stock with 3.55 gears...full time 727/np203 drivetrain.Block and heads are at machine shop...it has been bored 30 over and I got a set of Wiseco PTS531A3 Pro Tru forged pistons for it to raise the compression to around 9.8 to 1.Also got a set of 440 Source rods.Stock 452 heads are just getting freshened up...getting new pushrods, rockers and valve springs are fine.I am going to get a Summit SUM-6400 cam and lifter kit as it is better than stock and you can't beat the price at $117.My question is how should I install the cam for my application...straight up or advanced?Also, it is a cast crank motor...what should I do about balancing?I don't have the rods yet, but when they arrive I will weigh both new and old assemblies and post up the difference.Thanks in advance for your help!

Line up the dots and call it good. This is a stock build no need to advance an RV cam.

I like to degree just to make sure it's accurate, but like he said - line up the dots (install straight up).
On the balancing - you need to pay the shop to balance the assembly. If you retain the factory balancer you will need to give him the balancer, flex plate, bolts, and convertor to balance with it. All those parts are what the factory uses to externally balance the assembly. Or - you can internally balance it, replace the balancer with a neutral version, and remove the weight from the convertor and it will be smoother.

The new pistons and rods were considerably lighter than the OEM stuff, so it is at a different shop for internal balancing.Waiting patiently.
