Have had several racers tell me that they are very appreciative of my efforts. I am far from a professional but am trying to improve my skills. I have a mentor that is helping me out. One of the things he is doing is telling me to push things a bit...and try things that I have been hesitant to. One of them is shooting in the dark...with only the lights from the track. It is pushing my camera to its limits....will try and post the one image later, our internet is REALLY SLOW right now...

Good stuff. I respectfully suggest investing in some post processing to bring out the best in your images. It allows for subtle changes beyond what the camera captured to improve the image.

Here is an example. Subtle but better IMHO.

I have several more of this car....taken from behind it when he launched...have a landing one that is pretty wild looking. Have some shots of the 67 Mustang with a stick in it wheels up, in the dark.

Lady Elaine, a local Nostalgia Funny Car. She is looking for pictures of the car with the new body on it. She only made one pass at SCR with it, this is it. The ISO was maxed out at 25600, shot at 2 full stops over exposed, aperture was maxed out and blinking (means the camera wanted more) and I shot it at a relatively slow shutter speed. I am hoping she likes this picture as it was the best I have of it, I think. My mentor was standing right next to me, his image is damn near the same as mine....

Yeah, that's the car. Badass. Cool lookin Trans Am too.

I am really enjoying this. I went to an event at the Road Course a few weeks back. Shooting at the road course is much more difficult than the drag strip. SCR has "Open Road Course" days the same weeks as they have points races. They run the road course from 7 in the morning (?) to 2 in the afternoon. I want to go next time and try my hand at it again. Have been invited by a young lady that does Autocross racing to her events. Problem is they are on the same weekends that SCR has the points races. The Autocross group does race on Sundays, so I am going to go sooner or later. Also planning on going to the Motocross track in Airway Heights.

Well Doug, you've been in a dark place way too long. Kitty and I have prayed for you a lot. I am really glad you have found something you enjoy.........and you're damn good at it too!

Hi Doug is this the f2.8 (which I also have) or f4 version?
It is the F/2.8 II. I love that lens. I use it for damn near everything....Just heard back from Lady Elaine...she likes this version...

She was a bit to close, the depth of field was pretty shallow....but I tend to shoot a lot of pictures where the rear half of the car is a bit soft....be thrilled if she decides to use it on her cards that she hands out at events...

I just picked up a 100-400L, the older one with the slide zoom. I have been using it wherever I can, it only opens up to F/4 if I remember right. My buddy has a 300 F/2.8 Sigma lens that he just picked up not to long ago. He is not really thrilled with it...nothing wrong with it just not what he wants. If he decides to sell it...and I have the $$ I may buy it. Only problem is the thing is a boat anchor...it weighs a lot...

Yeh the 100-400 stops down as you zoom, so at 400 it's 5.6 wide open. I also have a beat up old Canon 300mm L 2.8. It's so old it was made for the auto focus film cameras. The focus is "off" but with stuff like the 7D I can correct it in the camera menu.

My 70-200 is not the II version

Only way I can shoot with these anymore (I'm weak and shaky) is to crank the shutter speed way way up, us Av

I pack a monopod with me, after a few hours I tend to get a bit shakey.
Physical therapist gets a bit bent out of shape when I tell him that I was on my feet for 8-10 hours. He wants me to wear a backbrace....and start using my wrist wraps...

Some nice shots you've got there. Taking pictures can be a very satisfying experience, whether it's race cars or nature. I know it has been for me.
