600 edelbrock secondary bog.

-
25.8" tall tire and stock 2.76 gears for now. I have and 8.8 rear with 3.73 gears that will be going in at some point.

Yeah stock stall. Seems to be better if I run it in first or second at about 3000 rpm and then go wide open throttle

You say you have an owners manual, so turn to the page that goes into detail about tuning the transient system. The download shows this to be page 4. Check out the secondary side. They call it the secondary auxiliary system. It is supposed to start flowing as soon as the secondary air-valve starts opening, to cover the lean tip-in bog........ Your seems to not be working correctly

Hmmm. I'll start from square one then. I'll pull the carb back off and clean all the passages out and recheck the float levels again. Hopefully its just some crud stuck in a tube or air bleed somewhere.

if you could take some pics and post them, that might be helpful. What is the link to the online manual you were using? I could take a look and refamiliarize myself on your particular carb model.

If it's coming apart again, like rustycowll69 said, check that air door counterweights and see if someone has modified/ lightened them in the past. Grinding/ filing marks would be noticeable

are the secondary boosters unique? if one were specific to say the left side, is it possible to install inadvertently in the right side, and vice versa?

Sounds like Vacuum Advance in hooked up to full vacuum port .[Driver side port ] Need to be on venturi vacuum port [ Passenger side lower front Small Port] .You get full advance at idle and , lose advance when at Part Throttle & Wide Open Throttle !

you said it feels better when you hold it in gear longer so does it still bog down or is it a slight improvement ,does it go into passing gear when you step on it or does it just stay in 3 gear at 30mph lugging the engine down you had to correct your throttle cable did you readjust the kick down rod /cable?

IIRC the emulsion tubes, make it so as they only fit one way; but it's been awhile.....
been QUITE a while for me, too. I kinda remember thinking/ deducing how the gaskets had to go to work properly, but couldn't remember if the venturi cluster was idiot-proof or not. No offense to OP, I think we all appreciate he's never even seen this particular carb before.

Here are a couple of pictures of the engine bay. Nothing special lol. Usually has an air cleaner on it. I went tonight to drive it some more and when I turned the key on it started leaking gas down the bored of the carb. Apparently I have a float stuck. Maybe I'm on to something here. I'll be pulling it apart and cleaning it along with adjusting float levels again. I'll start all over with the trunk g and go from there. Wish I had someone with a good carb laying around to see if it's just the carb.

I finally got some time to clean my carb. I cleaned everything that looked like it had a hole through it. The counter weight looks untouched. It still has a hesitation but not the huge bog like it did. Definitely need to get the kickdown adjusted better. Doesn't shift down soon enough. At least there was an improvement. I'll put the secondary jets back to stock next I think.

First, as no one ever addressed it that I saw, the metering rods/springs ain't got DOO DOO to do with the secondary side. NUTHIN. So lets get that out of the way. Vacuum signal too high? Yeah, ok. Whatever, AJ. IMO, your main problem is your gear ratio and those tall tires. It sounds like you are trying to "hurry" the carburetor and it is in no mood for it.

Try this simple experiment. Manually shifting the car, open the secondaries up at different RPM intervals. I say manually shift it so that the transmission will not get into a higher gear and lug the engine back down. I think that's basically your problem. The engine is simply not turning enough RPM to warrant a good, smooth transition into the secondaries.

So, try tipping the secondaries in at a higher and higher RPM and I bet you will find that the bog disappears at a given RPM. The engine is simply being lugged down to the point that the secondaries are essentially opening too soon. Try what I suggested and I bet you will find I am right.

Oh and one more thing. The 600 Edelbrock carburetors are absolutely the PERFECT size for almost any stock displacement MILD small block. Might be a little big for a 273, but you can make them work. On that 360, it is DEAD on the money.

I know the gears are not ideal but its what I have for the summer. I'll definitely play more with it when I get some time. We bought a four unit rental last week so time is a little short these days lol.

had a 600 eddy on a 318 that I couldn't get the bog out either, with stock converter and 2.76's. But I finally got the bog out with one word..... "Holley" :D

I bet the Holley is a vacuum secondary. See, that's the difference. The Edelbrock AFB carburetors are mechanical secondary carburetors. Although they do have the air door to regulate air flow, they are 100% mechanical in nature. That's why they need some RPM to make the transition smooth.

I pieced together an old 670 Street Avenger. No more bog :)
this is it on a cast TQ intake

Hell yeah! I love a good vacuum secondary carburetor. I think they are grossly under rated.

gee post 15 had the same results ,could of saved a lot of time for a 5 min check and I have seen it many times on other cars with cable or electric shift controls but its always the carb too small too big ect.
