Engine is 360, 1974. So I have a 904 trans and torque converter. I need the correct flex plate. The B&M 10236 plate wont sit flat on the converter because of the balance weight thats welded on. Think I need the TCI 102390. Any help?

Or a factory flex if a member has it. Trans year 1978. Non lockup

A stock neutral balance flexplate is all you need if the converter is already offset balanced!

Alright let's step back, here. What is the 904 off of? They didn't put them behind 360's did they? So it should NOT have the correct weights for a 360. So is it neutral balance, or is it weighted for ?? cast crank 318 or some such? not familiar with??

1975-78 360 2 barrel came with 904

Ok, but is the converter for that what you HAVE? It should have a sizeable weight or two, not the small ones for neutral balancing

that BM is for a 727

If the converter is right, then the "spider" type above is what you want

Does the plate have a scallop in it ? ( a big bite out of it )

If so you are using an external balanced plate on a weighted TQ... knock the weight off of it...
If no scallop then you need a different plate.

I just pulled a B&M sfi 904 external flex plate off my old engine. I will check the PN# tomorrow.

There are two things to look at for a flex plate...

First, is your crank symmetrical bolt pattern or non-symmetrical (offset)... Determine the bolt pattern of your crank...

Then measure the diameter for the bolt pattern on the torque converter, they come in 10" or 11".... Then go to mancini and order the proper flex plate with the bolt patterns to match your crank and torque converter...

OH MY GAWD.

Knock the weight off your converter and bolt it all together. Done.

Thanks guys! Im going to knock the weights off and get the correct plate. This way if I upgrade the converter Ill have to correct plate

On another note. I looked at the flex plates choices 500 times and I can’t believe I order the WRONG ONE!!!!! Aghhhhhh!!!!!

You can buy mine... I just removed it from the 360/904 combo from my Barracuda.
I am installing a 5.9 magnum and using the stock Magnum flexplate so I have no use for it...

I should give Fisky the 1st shot since it is his thread... if he doesnt respond its yours.

Don't feel bad. It's easy to get the wrong one. Other than that, I don't get why folks around here make things so complicated when they are so easy. That said, good luck!

Go ahead barracuda dave. No problem if you buy it. Ill just return mine and get the correct one. Thanks for the consideration though.

Did the trans or converter come from behind a 75-78 360? If the converter has weights factory welded, then you have the right converter and just need the factory flex plate. Also if the trans came from behind a 360, you have the sought after 999 trans. Post the PK number off of the pan rail under the shift lever.

So why would I have a trans with f$&@&ing part number you cant make out!! Gee whiz!!
Some lazy *** worker put those numbers on I guess.

I belives the 3’ are 8’s
The build date comes back may78
And the closest part # that makes sense is 4028815. Indeed from a 360
