I recieved payment for a steering wheel though paypal prior to it being picked up .

After the person picked it up he couldn't have made it home and he canceled the payment.

I contacted paypal and they said he claimed it was a fraudulent payment someone hacked his account.

Because the payment was made for merchandise and the item was picked up there is no tracking I lose my money .

Paypal informed me that when ever you receive payment for an item through anyone other than ebay it should be a money transfer unless you are a registered business with Paypal.

Another lesson learned. His name was "Robert Reiners" from Pittsburgh Pa.

Beware! This is another way to get scammed through Paypal. Never accept a payment through paypal if they are picking the item up. Unless it is a money transfer. I am out $300.00 and a mint Tuff wheel with adapter and 71 leather horn pad.

Send him a message through email that you want your money.
If he doesn't want to send it you have his name and where he's from go visit him.

I'm just curious , if he was coming to pick it up , why would you not ask for the money in person?

Better yet, why would he go pick up a part he didn't know about?
He would have to claim it wasn't him that picked it up?

I'd find that guy, just because he so deserves it.

someone comes to my place to pick up a part, i snap some pics of them and what they're driving

Maybe he's related to Justin Figgatt........I guess is no end to the angles a scammer/ con man will go to

So far as cash, that is no guarantee, either, and neither are the "test" pens. Unless, I guess, you take his cash to the bank and trade it for "bank cash" LOL

I can see the use of Paypal and picking up the part, if:
They were concerned about getting robbed or
They wanted to use a credit card.
As for taking a pic, a buddy of mine was telling me his cousin had a Harley for sale on craigslist. Dude calls, wants to see the bike. Drives to house, a pic was taken a the guy left his car. From what I understand, he said he needed his license because he was test driving the bike. Made sense.
Guy left and never came back. The car turned out to be stolen. Bike has vanished.

I would only taken friends and family with him leaving with parts.

He paid me so he would be sure it would be here? I didn't have a chance to ship it and he was in my driveway. I fell for it hook , line ,and sinker.

I have someone coming for a 4 spd. set up and another steering wheel that I recieved $1100 for through paypal in April . People pay for items and pick them up during the Carlisle event week. I am a person that is trusted and many come to my house.

I am onto the scam now. No one will leave here anymore with out a receipt of the transaction confirming the pick up of their item if paid through paypal

Even if he signs a receipt saying he picked it up PayPal will not honor it. It has to absolutely be shipped with a reputable company and a tracking number for them to honor it. If somebody is coming to pick something up friends and family is the absolute only way to except PayPal

Omg that is terrible!! I hate that for you. I hate it more that ppl are that dishonest ppl need to learn to love and respect one another!

No atm in town either? Sorry to read this, it's very clear in the paypal policy that you can't do pick ups for items paid as merchandise.

Doesn't matter if you ship it either. The scams are:
1. Show PayPal a picture of a shitty item, claim that what you sent them is not what you said it was, get their money back AND keep what you sent. OR,
2. Show PayPal a picture of a open / damaged box, claim item is either missing or damaged, get their money back, and let you deal with the shipping service.
Ebay just as bad as PayPal in defending fraudulent buyers over legitimate sellers. I quit selling on ebay for that very reason. When I buy a car on ebay, only $500 deposit via PayPal, the rest in cashiers check. Seller doesn't like it, I'll find another car.

My suggestion, get a photo with you, buyer, and parts, along with the buyers ID, when he comes to get them. If he doesn't like it, refund his money. Protect yourself and your goods.
