Steering Column Replacement

In the next six months I plan to switch from automatic on the column to the floor. Do I need to source another A Body with a /6 on the floor or can I go with an A body with any size engine that has a floor shift?
 
If your goal is to do away with the visual part of it being column shift? You can use any floor shift column from the same year range. You have to use a manual column or P/S column to coincide with what you have now. You didn't say what car you have.
 
I'm driving a 69 Barracuda with auto on the column. I'm wondering if a column from a Dart, Duster, etc., with a floor shift could be interchanged.
