Picked up a / over the weekend to replace the broken version I had..

Was out of a 74 Duster and was complete from oil pan to air cleaner. Air cleaner still had the stock Mopar info decals even. I figure I can ebay alot of the stuff I pulled off.. Kick down linkage, Holley, air cleaner etc and recover a few bucks.

Being that it's a 74 and my truck is a 64, I had to drop my flywheel off at the machine shop to have the index hole taken up in size and having it resurfaced as well. Also have a new pressure plate/clutch kit, water pump, gasket set, cap/rotor, distributor gear, thermostat, belt hoses etc.. o and a Super Six intake with a new 38/38 Weber and regulator to boot. I think I've got all the bases covered. Feel like I'm forgetting something tho...

Going in for new 2.25 or 2.5 exhaust once it's back up and going.. opinions?

That is cool love the slant six! Im not sure on the exhaust but i dont think 2.5 would hurt so i would go 2.5.

I was wrong about the distributor drive gear.. I thought I had it ordered but Napa said they were unable to get it. Any suggestions where to pick one up? I checked the other name brand stores and didn't have any luck..

If you need any older slant parts, I have a couple of old slants sitting around that I am willing to let go... They are from 65 or 66 model year...

what all upgrades have you done to the frame? Rollcage? 5-point harnesses? On-board fire suppression? drag chute?
It's not as simple as just bolting the 225 in and driving off into the sunset. There are safety concerns when you are putting something like that out on the public roadways.
With great power comes great responsibility..

I remember back as a 16 year old breaking 2 of those little nylon gears. The dang hole just doesn't line up! I believe you need to drill a new hole to slide the pin in. Its been a few years since I was 16..... so I could be fuzzy on the details

I have a throttle stop .. no worries :p

Ordered 2 gears from RA.. 2.99 shipping still kept it under the radar ($10)

Before and now... Manifolds and carb just sitting place for now. Waiting for my heat wrap to show up so I can wrap the exhaust manifold.

Then it's go time!

spiffy! The nylon gears do require you to drill the holes to set the end play, just slide a .007 feeler gauge in there, push it on and then drill through. Ive done it with a hand drill, use a soldering iron to make a little dimple in the nylon where the hole will be if you need to drill from the outside in. NAPA Echlin DG-404 is an iron slant gear part number.

Yep.. Picked up oil, filter, antifreeze, battery, battery cables over the weekend. Wrapped the manifold yesterday. Will probably slip the flywheel and bellhousing on tonight and maybe slip it in.

Nice. :D

O yea.. I also ordered a new alternator. My old one was a bit stiff to rotate and it reminded me that it used to have an occasional squall. 45 bucks is money well spent now rather than on the side of the road later. I'm putting the motor in as complete as possible... so much easier on the stand. Gotta say that putting the manifolds on with heat wrapped exhaust manifold is a total PITMFA! Glad I did it now

you getting the manifolds surfaced together?

I could never get mine to seal well. I'd get an exhaust or intake leak. So I just snugged them each to the head, then torqued them together, pulled them as one piece and had them surfaced. sealed with no problem after that

Here's hoping...

I torqued to 10 ft pounds and it just never seems like it'll be enough!

Took it out for a spin this past weekend.. ran great! The 38/38 Weber seems like a perfect compliment to the /6. Was easy to dial in, snappy without any hesitation.Even had that good ol A100 vapor lock lol. Was very brief after a good drive and sitting for a bit. I think I can relocate the pressure regulator and reroute the fuel line to improve things.. if it's a real problem.

About the only thing left is do some lifter adjustments and take it in for new exhaust..
