My 1967 Barracuda has an unsilenced air cleaner on a 2 barrel 273
This is the original factory air cleaner, my grandfather purchased the car new and he didn't change it. This is an early 67 California car

It uses the same filter as the chrome Commando air cleaner.
The base is designed to fit the Carter BBD carburetor.

Here is a California 1967 Valiant with a 273

I've looked through the parts book and couldn't figure it out.
The 14-29-2 Part type code looks to be for the snorkel unit.
The 14-29-7 shows 2463932 this looks to be the cover.
The 14-29-9 shows 2402678 is this the 2bbl base?

I have never seen one elsewhere, why did one end up on mine?

Thanks,

Alan

That is odd. when you say early 67 do you mean it was built in the last quarter of 66?
My 67 Dart was built in feb 67 and has the snorkle type filter like in your Valiant photo.
Maybe it was a leftover from the 66 model year?

Here’s one I have with the same 2 bbl baseplate, but no extra bung for the hose, which may be some kind of California emission thing. I’m using mine with the K&N filter for the commando assembly, and one of moparmat2000’s 4 bbl baseplates for 5” carb throats, to get a 2 bbl look out of my secret stroker project!

The 1967 Barracuda Production started October 31, 1966 the the typical July dates.

These air cleaner covers were used on both /6 and 4bbl starting in the early 60's. The black covers with and without the nipple are readily available and has never been a question. I have never seen another 2bbl one on any year.

The nipple is part of the Cleaner Air Package for 67

What was that air cleaner from?

Alan

There were no 2bbl slant 6 in 67 (or 66), this is clearly a 2bbl air cleaner.

Alan
The bases and tops are interchangeable. Those black air cleaners were also used on The early 60's B bodies with a max Wedge and dual quads.

Yes but what car also had the 2bbl carb with this air cleaner?

Possibly a stock base and a slant 6 top. I Haven't seen a 2 barrel 273 air cleaner without a snorkel. Not saying it couldn't happen.

The standard 2bbl snorkel base is totally different (has snorkel).

Alan

The base is the same, snorkel or not. Probably a original base with a slanty lid.
???????????????
The snorkel air cleaner seals the top and bottom together and is probably 2" larger in diameter.

To tell you the truth, I can’t remember where I got it. I can tell you that it’s the same size as the chrome Commando lids from 66 cars, and that the slant and max wedge units are both different sizes. I believe this lid I have came in a 66 Cuda with a 273 2 bbl, but I don’t remember which car I kept it from!

Never say never with Mopar. I looked through a hundred or so photos of 273's and couldn't find any 2 barrels that didn't have a snorkel.

Used in 1966 on /6 one barrel, Carter 2 barrel and AFB. Only the base was different. Good Idea since you could use the same air filter for all.

I have the same, but from a 65 Barracuda 273 2bbl. No breather hose.
