I wonder if I could buy a Carter LA fuel pump and buy this Chebby unit and install the bottom portion from Chebby unit over to LA unit it would have the 10 an inlet and 8 an outlet which is substantially bigger fuel fittings the Chebby unit flows up to around 172 gph .

I would think that the parts should physically interchange. Maybe there is a heavier spring/diaphragm in the Chevy pump. Certainly not a cheap deal. Good luck

What about just drilling and tapping out the Mopar pump for the bigger size fittings?

Agree with this. Also what is the NPT inlet size on this Chevy pump? I reamed my fittings and ported the inlet and outlet areas of my pump housing.

Why are SBM fuel pumps so damn expensive?

It won't work , I tried it . Bought the NASCAR bottom for Chevy and Tried to install on Carter , Holley and Edelbrock . Won't work on any of them .

The problem with the 6 valve pumps that I ran into was the housing diameter interferes with the '70 up water pump inlet.
Maybe Clay's pump housings are smaller diameter, but that's what I found on the
More valves in and out help flow without requiring more pressure, but require more room - and maybe a bigger diaphram.

Looks to me like you can shorten the water pump inlet or cut it off and change the inlet hose angle to make it clear all that stuff.

I think so too. Didn't need the 6 valve pump so didn't go there. A little grinding on the block may also be needed.
What we really need is someone to make sb aluminum water pumps in pre-'70 style (short nose, driver side inlet) LOL

LOL!! I alsed Milodon back when I bought my 64 Barracuda in 1985 about an aluminum early water pump. He said what the hell do you need that for? I gave up after that.
