Sorry gang, it's been WAY too long since I've poked around this forum and had any amount of energy put into my 'ol gal Barracuda. I've been starting to get her back on the road and I'm trying to keep her cool. Forgive me because I've been out of the Mopar game for a while now (busy w/ house, marriage, kid, etc) and I'm a bit rusty on what works with my set up and what new products are out there.

So here's the scrub, '65 Barracuda w/ a warmed over '71 340, standard flow '71 aluminum water pump, spitfire headers, hot cam, LD340 intake, 650 DP holly, SB 727. So I've got a new but little single core copper spectra radiator that I had laying around bolted up to it and it's just not enough to keep her cool, she's at around *200 just buzzing around town when it's 80* out and not even close to beating on her. It's just too little radiator, no shroud, flex fan. So here's what I'm looking to get some input on. What is a good option for both a "22 radiator along with a shroud that will fit it with this water pump (late style coolant intake and exit) that will fit a shroud in an early A-body. Summit 22" aluminum 3 core a solid option with decent fitment in this car? Will a later style repop 22" shroud it it and work well. Car has Shumaker mounts in it to fit the 340 it that helps.

Hope this isn't common knowledge today, last I looked A-body 22" shrouds didn't exist and anything late swapped into an early A was info that didn't exist online. Thanks in advance, please feel free to school me as needed!

The "factory" would have put a 26" multi row copper rad with trans cooler.

Assuming you water pump inlet is on the passenger side, a center inlet to the rad and passenger outlet would be a slant 6 with a/c and trans cooler that is 26" wide would be what you would use. But your core support is only set up for a 22" wide rad. So you would need to modify it to use a 26" rad.

Option 2 : a 22" super cooler rad without trans cooler .
Use a plate style trans cooler in front of the rad.
Use a shroud with at least 2500 c.f.m thermostat controlled electric fan(s) also a fan override switch.

I run a 22” stock 66 273 radiator that had the lower hose outlet switched for the newer 70 up pump...my stock radiator was recorded with a 2 row high flow efficiency core, I have a high flow water pump and a stock 4 blade fan in front of a 400 HP 340 and it ever gets above 200 even on the hottest days, no fan shroud...copper cools better than aluminum...sometimes the aftermarket stuff is wasted money, plus, my radiator looks stock and fits perfect in the stock location worth no mods to the core support in my 66 Valiant

And YES, there are factory 22” fan shrouds for the early-a cars, I have 2 of them and my dad has 1 in his 66 Formula S...they are a 2 piece unit made of metal and need special mounting brackets....it’s pretty rare stuff but yes they did make them!

1.Get a 18in or 20in flex fan,
2.check your pulley sizes cause they are bigger ones and smaller ones,
3. get the fan as close as you can to the radiator so it can pull as much air, there are cheap spacers at A.Z or O.R
4.then just buy a champion radiator and run the later 318 water pump to match the bottom outlet, your going to have to drill it to fit but its not hard.

I have run this set up in Early a bodys and later abodys and it Works well, i have trouble even getting warm.
yes they do make early a body metal shrouds i ran the factory set up with shroud and it did not keep my car as cool as the flex fan champion set up.

Pardon my side question... What high flow water pump are you running? passenger side set up? What is the inlet size?
