While looking for diff gears, I tried RockAuto. It appeared they had the gears I was looking for.

BUT turns out they had bad info in the description.

here is what I sent to their customer service e-mail:

Hi,
While looking for ring and pinion gears for my 67 Dodge Dart with 8 ¾
differential and noticed you had listed a US Standard Gear part number
ZGC889 and the description shows it's for a 741 case. I contacted US Standard
Gear and they informed me that the part number is actually for a 489 case
hence the 89 at the end of the part number.

Here is the response I got back from RockAuto:

Subject: [Ticket#103998779] incorrect product description

Hello,

To view pricing and availability, please select your vehicle and part category on RockAuto.com. Everything listed is in stock, ready to ship (unless a delay is noted). Shipping costs appear when you put a part in the shopping cart and enter your zip/postal code. For more information, please see: Help with Finding Parts For Your Vehicle

If you need help deciding which part to choose, please see: Help with Choosing Parts

If the part you're looking for is not listed on RockAuto.com, we do not have it and do not know when it may become available. However, we add parts to the catalog daily, so please check again soon.

Thank you for your interest in our products, and for helping to keep our prices low by using our online resources!

Looks like Rodney cannot read!

Just thought it was funny!

I think Rodney is just a big rubber stamp! They list 82 Mazda B2000 headlights as round, them's squares!

Zero as in ZERO QC control/accountability. Not surprised.
I tried gathering a list for 67 and 69 cuda. I started out with only a 3-4pieces, short list but "must haves" coming from 2 warehouses. Added about 6-8 more parts totaling $200(before shipping). Now the bastards are shipping from 7 warehouses and shipping is $100. No way whatsoever to consolidate them. I just trimmed my list down so shipping was bearable. 3 pieces coming from 2 warehouses.
I feel your pain.

"trust but verify" and that's what you did. Saved yoirself from a big hassle for sure. Rock Auto ain't so bad, fast service, sometimes best prices and better choices than autozonk or the others.

I only trust the manufacturer homepages and ask them if i don't trust them! These are warehouses and they sell million of parts, so it's really hard everything to know about a part.
Rockauto do a lot of splitting your order, so they can charge a lot more freight cost from several selling plants, that's a fact and not fair!!! I'm pretty sure they make a lot of money with the freight companies.
I made a lot of good experiences with Summit, they have a good customer service, i hope they keep it at that high level.

As bad as that is, it's about on par with local stores with "actual human" counterpeople. NAPA here is a joke. O'Reallys is OK IF YOU TALK TO THE GIRLS. The manager and two of the parts people there are female and they don't always have the answers but they try harder "than the bois". One short little **** has about 3 brothers and she REALLY knows what she is talking about

I have noticed this as well... they do it intentionally just to jack up shipping charges.

dont order a blower motor for your non A/C Car...it will be wrong ! I have 2 of them ...lol

I also have 4 O2 sensors they sent me for free ! Cha...Ching !

Latest in the RockAuto Saga...

My snarky reply:

WOW Rodney.

Your auto response has nothing to do with issue I sent in about.

Next time READ the email before replying.

Makes me rethink about buying from RockAuto!

Dana

RockAuto's responce:

Dear Dana,

Thank you for the follow up. Our data comes direct from the manufacturer and they did confirm they had this part listed incorrectly. We will get that updated in our catalog.

If you need the part for the #89housing this part will be correct for you. If you need the part for the #41 housing, please order part ZGC841.

Thank you,

Ashley

At least Ashley can read, but really, the gear manufacturer sent them the wrong info! Really! Finger pointing 101

Too funny

Rock Auto seems like it has millions and millions of parts. I highly doubt they could fit every single part into one warehouse and just ship from there. The split shipping is an annoyance and I usually avoid it unless it's still the cheapest option available.

yeah but I find it highly unlikely that every order needs to be split into multiple shipments. I have yet to see a one depot order... even on multiples of the same part !

Yep 3 parts from 2 warehouses. 4 parts from 4 warehouses WTF?

I split my buying among 3 local stores (Car Quest/Advanced Commercial, Napa, and an Auto Zone that's a last resort when others are closed) and Rock Auto. Always been happy with the stuff I picked, and I've returned a few things with no trouble after talking with them. The Absolute worst place was a Mopar specific NOS parts place. That escalated to a claim through my credit card before they relented and credited me in full with shipping.

I've noticed that too.
You have 3 parts in your cart, all from the same warehouse, add the 4th and boom! 4 parts serviced from 3 warehouses. Remove the 4th part and it goes back to the 3 warehouses.

I use them less and less. Last look up was shipping the same brand matching cap and rotor from 2 different warehouses, but it's no worse then my local Napa wanting to charge me shipping from their warehouse to their store and having to go back a second time.

With all the parts they seem to be selling you would think they already have daily transport between all those presumed warehouses.
As a company why would you keep alive that "one thing" that gives your outfit a bad name?
From a commercial point of view, this extra shipping/warehouse-scam is costing them a lot as well, besides having their name tarnished with this easily removed 'issue'.

I used them once. Wrong part. No people on the other end. Part still on shelf. I’ll never use them again!

Rock auto has no warehouse of any type not even a small store front with a few dusty shelves, they are simply a broker/ middle man for warehouses that help them move parts.

Vatozone sucks
I used em the other day to figure out pads needed for my xploder 8.8 i got. Theres a mid year change to pads and totors in 2001. Didnt know which i had. I took pix of my pads, and had them pull a set of 1999s and 2002s figured out i had an up to 2001 rear. Armed with that knowledge, i then put my pads and and stuff in the rock auto shopping cart. I hunt for parts that will all come from the same location to save shipping. I have 13 items i need in one shopping cart. From rotors, to pads and everything else i need. 28.00 shipping. Dont forget your 5% discount code.

Someone at Rock likely inputted the wrong data. Manufacturer probably has it right.

There are plenty of bad info listings at Summit as well.

Three listings on Rock auto for R&P and two of them are for the same case via description. Looking at PN, it wasn't tough to figure out which ones belonged to which case. I guess I sold parts too long...
