All this about indexing and drive gear position is only for appearance. You can close your eyes and throw the gear/ shaft into the engine, and throw the dist in after it and it will run fine. Just bring up no1 on compression, and plug the no1 wire in wherever the rotor points
I have done this job many times on many different engines and I have never thought about it like that before iv always indexed my no 1 point was with the rotor. That is very good info thanks I'm sure that will come in handy down the road.
