Can a early style 273/318 cast iron water pump be installed onto a 1992 5.2 magnum engine ? Also can the vibration balancer from the 273 be installed onto the same 1992 Magnum engine ?
I do no have room for the longer aluminum water pump.

The balancer no, but if the water pump fits on a 318 or 360 then it should fit the 5.9

OK thats a start.
Next question.. Can an Edelbrock 2176 Performer intake be made to fit onto a 1992 5.2 Magnum engine (the edelbrock magnum intake is to tall for my app.

Yes but the 2176 ports are quit a bit smaller than the magnum heads ports. (I am running a 2176 on my magnum right now)
Then there's the part where the bolt patterns are different.
LA (2176) intakes use a angled bolt orientation, and the magnum heads use a vertical intake bolt.
If you come up with a jig, or send your heads off to someone like Hughes Engines thay can drill the magnum heads for LA style intakes.
This is handy because it opens up a myriad of intakes we can use.

Then there's Engine Quest Magnum heads that can be ordered with the LA bolt pattern pre drilled and threaded. Engine Quest Part number CH318B

These heads are what I used on my 5.9 with an LA style intake.

Just remember you also have to change the timing cover to the LA style cover when you use the LA water pump.

Rusty, out of curiosity, what vehicle is this in (or going in) that the alum pump won't fit? And, is that with a mech fan or elec?

1964 Dodge A100 pick up. I have a clutch fan /and shroud on it. I think that all the V8 A100's used the cast iron water pump. That's also why I need an intake that has less height than the magnum intakes :(

I would need to go with the cheapest way. To put the 2176 edelbrock on to the 5.2 magnum... don't have much of a budget. :(

With factory magnum heads the cheapest way would be to drill and tap the heads for the LA bolt pattern.
There used to be a jig floating around that people shared to correctly drill the heads, but I have not seen it for quite awhile.

A real resourceful guy with a wrecking yard around could make a drilling pattern from LA heads.

Question about damper...Is the 5.2 magnum damper the same thickness as the 273 damper ?../ and will the crank pulley from the 273 bolt onto the magnum damper ??

I doubt it, and it's not necessarily the thickness, but the balance position and amount on the balancer that matters.

On the second question I know 318 and 360 pulleys can be mounted on the magnum damper, so I would think the 273 would also.
One bolt hole on the pulley doesn't quite line up and needs to be egged out just a little for all the bolts to go in.
I'm running the stock pulleys from my old 318 on my magnum right now.

Thanks...you just told me what I needed to know :)
