It does not have to be narrowed, nor do the spring perches have to be moved. It sets right on the springs. It IS the narrowest of all 9 inch housings. I have U-bolts and shock plates. I am using the 9 because I already have it and have a 3.70 gear in it. I will put a mini spool in it and have at it.
