NV3500 behind a 340?

Can I put a nv3500 in place of a 833 behind a 340? If so would I use the clutch from the nv3500, 833, or would I have to mismatch parts? I want overdrive just to make the car more drivable. Right now at 70 mph it runs about 4100 rpm. The 340 is pretty mild, stock bottem end, mild cam, j heads, and a edelbrock carb. Any advice would be helpful
Do you have 4.56s in it?...why?
Is this a street/strip car,or a streeter?
Boy, I bet that's a hoot!!
Most of the overdrives I have seen are between .65 and .73, with the exception of the GVOD at .78. So say around .69. and times 4100rpm, brings the Rs down to ~2830. This is the same as 3.23s and no overdrive.
For a streeter;
4.56s will get you 60=6530 in second, and 4760 in third, with 27s; neither of which is the best place to be with a combo like yours.
>Ima guessing a good place to be would be 5600 at the top of second; and that would be 3.91s. and that would be 70=3400.and a 10.40 starter gear.
> Ima guessing another option could be the 3.09 Commando box with the 3.09 low gear and 3.55s, for a starter of 10.97;a cruiser rpm of 70=3100; and 60=5100 in second, not the best, but a reasonable compromise. Certainly better than 6530/4760 of the 4.56s.
And guess what, these 3.55s will get you
94@5800rpm; versus
94@7455 in third/5325in fourth with the 4.56s.....Neither of which is any good, with your combo as stated.

I have been running this 3.09/3.55 combo since 2004 or so , more or less most of the time, and it is my favorite combo. I know my 367 could pull 3.23s just fine, so Ima thinking your 340 would like the above too.
I ran 4.30s, in my streeter, for one summer, and the first gear was good for one thing only; parading. I yanked it and sold it so I wouldn't be tempted to re-use it,lol.
In any case; just trying to be helpful.
